Rear Tailgate gas struts needed

Hey there folks,

Been a long time since I've been on here. I've got a '93 Delica Super Exceed which has been awesome. I had it camperized at the beginning of the summer and enjoying the added benefits. The only problem I'm having is with my rear gas struts. They've completely given up the ghost, and with a ladder on the rear, it makes it near impossible to open up. I now have cabinets back there and need to open the hatch a lot. I have resorted to using a pair of vice grips to hold up the hatch. This however, is getting old rather quickly.

Trying to find a new pair at a decent price has proven to be rather difficult. Right Drive in Toronto quoted me a decent price and I ordered a set through them, but that was 5 months ago. They initially told me it would take two weeks for the struts to arrive. I'm losing faith that this is actually gonna happen, so I'm asking you folks now. Is there a mod anyone knows of that will fix this problem?? Perhaps another type of strut that will work on these vehicles? Maybe another dealer that sells them for a reasonable price?

On the bright side, I guess I'm building up my biceps. But I'm ready for a break now...... Any advice is appreciated. Hope everyone had good summer.

I haven't had mine done yet but will soon. I've read lots of positive things about his work. He should be able to rebuild yours and beef them up to hold the extra weight.

Sent mine to Strutwise, 4 years ago, still going great. Good turnaround, good communication, quality service. I've got an L300 with a ladder on the gate and haven't had a problem with it since... Not sure of the cost, but less than used replacement struts (which may also be undercharged), if memory serves.

When you do take them off and send them out, remember to reverse the sides of the struts when you reinstall them. This gives you a higher lift when opening the rear and keeps you from bumping your head on the gate.

I was just about to post the same question for the same problem but here is the solution! Thanks guys, fingers crossed that Frank can help. And cheers for the tip on reversing them to get extra lift height.

Hey, I've been away from the phone and just looking at this now. Regardless, this is awesome!!! Thanks for the replies. I'm in Ontario and I'm assuming strut wise is in BC? That's still ok. I've yet to find anyone in Ontario that can do this. I'll ship them out for what it's worth.

One last thing.... You're saying that putting the re gassed struts back on but up upside down so to speak, will give my tailgate a little more lift?? Just want to clarify before I do something I might regret.
