New Member - Kicking the tires

Post by MBMoose »

Hello,

I've long been an import fan and have always tinkered with the idea. One of my first cars was an Eagle Summit Wagon and so I've always dreamed of importing a Mitsubishi RVR Sport Gear. I see no interest in these vehicles for some reason. Any feedback on importing one to Winnipeg would be greatly appreciated.

Hey moose!

I'm currently working my way through the same process. windsong has been very helpful. Of course, if you have no interest in Delicas, this site likely won't be of any more help than any other importing forum. Regardless, the process will be similar: do your resesrch, find out exactly what you want/don't want, find a reputable importer and go for it.

There are more 'tobans on here, but I haven't figured out who they all are yet.

Good luck, I hope you find what you're looking for!

Thanks PJ
I've been looking around at what people seem to be importing. I'm intrigued by a whole bunch of vehicles. More research...
Pajero Evolution. Hmmm.

There are heaps of RVR Sports Gears here in New Zealand, many of them in the wrecking yards: they're fiendishly complex and require a lot of servicing, but in Japan they were a bit of a fad and, once they fell out of favour, didn't tend to receive the servicing they needed. They were inexpensive here when imported, and so the lack of servicing continued.

I used to work at the Automobile Association (breakdown service) and we saw lots of blown head gaskets, overheating, and failed auto transmissions in the MK1's. The Mk2 seemed more reliable, possibly because it was newer, but the GDI engines tended to wear out quickly- lots of smoky GDI RVRs on the roads here.

If I were buying a MK1 RVR, I would replace the radiator and *all* coolant hoses, water pump, and service the transmission before driving it. I'd consider changing the head gasket as a precaution too.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.
