Hello from Non-Delica Owner!

Post by rafaelziah »

Greetings everyone!

A Delica owner friend of mine suggested I join the forum to say hello to all the awesome Delica owners who share a passion for their vehicles, and to look for someone who could build something for my Ford Escape.

Although we're not Delica owners (yet), my wife and I will be taking a trip from Canada to Argentina like many of you have, and would like to build a custom sleeping platform for the vehicle. However, we don't know much about it and are hoping any of you guys can point us in the right direction!

Do you know of anyone in Vancouver who could build a sleeping platform for my 2002 Ford Escape XLT?

Looking forward to your reply.

Kindly,

-Rafael Ziah

My xterra was very similar in size to the Ford Escape and its not possible to get 6' of sleeping space in this midsized suv.

A roof top tent is a better option and that means you still have your interior for storage of the travel necessities.

Check out Hanibal Tents for starters, ARB also makes a few.

The roof rack tubes can handle the weight and you can get low profile units that reduce wind drag. Most are lockable too so as to reduce theft potential.

The delicas have 6-8 feet inside which means it won't cramp your sleeping style! And yes I have slept in my xterra and the front seats still didn't move far enough for a 6' long sleeping spot.
Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!

Hi Big-Bird!

You were right. We had a closer look at the vehicle and have opted for building a platform for equipment and luggage. The sleeping arrangements will be done with an SUV tent such as these: http://www.sportzbynapier.com/pages/ind ... tructions/

On the roof we will be getting a lockable Thule cargo box like this one http://cap-it.com/products-by-type/thul ... hule-sonic.

A few more bits and bobs and we will be set.

Thanks for the advise!
