Dashboard Cowling Removal... Help Needed

Hey there folks,,

I'm doing some minor modifications to my L300 at the moment and could use some help here. I've bought a strip of these cool green LED Lights that I want to mount under the dashboard. I was a long haul truck driver for a year and they had something similar in the trucks. It's great at night not only for effect, but also being able to see in the cab without imparing your view of the road......

So I'm trying to get the cowling off around the heater controls so I can get inside the dash and locate a power wire. i looked at it today, but was unable to figure out how to safely remove the trim piece without breaking it.....

Anyway, if anyone can pont me in the right direction on how to do this, I'd appreciate it. I figure the power wire to the radio should work for powering up these lights.

Cheers, Phil

I can't remember the screw location but their are some on the bottom and I believe above the heater controls. I've attached a couple pictures of after it is off which may help. I don't think any are hidden,

Remove heater control knobs, ashtray, and stereo surround. Set all heater controls to midway along their travel. Undo Three screws along the lower edge of the black plastic trim, then tilt the lower edge of the plastic trim towards you, and the three plastic tabs at the top will disengage.

When reassembling, note the ashtray bracket has a tab that goes into a matching bracket in the dash: if you miss the slot, you'll end up bending the tab and/or creating a massive rattle that will drive you insane.

Ahhh, sounds like you've done this before..... 8-) Thanks for the response. It's going all the way up to +3 today here in Ontario. I'm gonna lather up with sun screen and get outside to tackle this job one more time.

And I will make note of the ash tray position. My van already rattles enough when idling!!
