I haven't posted much here since I got my van, as its been rock solid…. But lately I've noticed a significant whine that happens in first and second gears. Under load (accelerating) it increases in volume from about 1700 rpm through 3000 rpm when I shift up. There is no other symptoms of anything, I haven't noticed any loss of power or anything else out of the ordinary. The only thing that I can think of is that the folks at CVI have recommended changing the tranny fluid every time they've looked at it (every oil change, ~5000kms) and I have.
The noise stops when I push the clutch in, doesn't happen when coasting in neutral or just by revving the engine. So tranny is where the issue lies (I assume - not a mechanic).
Anyone have any thoughts on where to start?
Thanks
Paul

Re: Gear or Tranny whine...
my 5 speed tranny started doing this(whine) at about 226000km. change the oil to be on the safe side and than BOOM!!!!!! 600km later the drive shaft inside the tranny broke in 3 places and destroy everything. get it check NOW!!!! these 5 speed are impossible to find!!!!!!!!!
Good luck!
P.S.: i will modify what is left of my van into a very expensive "boler"............. it is gonna be cool!!!!

Re: Gear or Tranny whine...
Update:
Checked and replaced fluid. It was near empty. It seems that the seal between the trans and transfer case might be going as all the fluid missing from the trans ended up in the transfer case. Fresh fluid all but made the noise disappear. Now the game of constant checking begins, to see how fast it transfers.

Re: Gear or Tranny whine...
remember to use GL4 trans oil on your standards... gl5 and older transmissions don't go well together.
