lower rad hose

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

lower rad hose

Post by joebillhill »

So I will be looking to tackle replacing the head this weekend on my 89 4d56 exceed, and while I'm in there replace a myriad of things. One of those would be the lower rad hose. looking at the Wiki and some posts it looks like the parts number is MB356383. NAPA can't find that in their system so I was looking at what others had suggested (Gates 21201 and Napa 8163) but these seem to have different inside diameters and different forms.
Has anyone confirmed either of these or know something that I don't?
Thanks,
Joe

First, if you are going to replace your lower hose ~ do both of them. I think they come in pairs, anyway.

Secondly, I was looking through my wagon and I realise that the plate that's under the carpet flat between your legs as you sit in the saddle has the Japanese chassis number. Check this thread. When you click on that link, the thread it takes you to is in a forum called "Delica FAQ Section". Click on "Useful Links for Vehicle Part Identification Purposes" in that forum and scroll down to JDM Online Catalogue and click on that link. A new page will open ~ enter the Japanese chassis number into the Mitsubishi field and hit enter. What you will see is about your wagon and all the OEM part numbers that originally came with her when she rolled off the assembly line.

If your wagon has an American assigned VIN and they bolted it over the Japanese one beside the driver's seat ~ I doubt they would have covered the other one under the carpet flap.

Have you gone to a Mitsubishi dealership and told them about your Delica and asked if they can get it in for you? They won't do it here in BC but I recall reading about a guy in the States who asked his Mitsu dealership if they could bring it in from Japan and they did.

Another option is to order from one of the Canadian companies like CC Autos, Rocky Mountain Imports, Maximum OverDrive or Rising Sun Auto Imports and see if they will ship to the US.

Thanks Falco I'll check it out. I am planning on replacing both, the top one is coming in to the Napa shop tomorrow and I'll just have to cut it to length.

Probably should have just got the set with my bulk order from Canada but I'll ask the Mitsubishi dealership though to see if they have a better option as I would like to avoid dealing with border crossing shipping rates and times for a hose. MIght just end up bringing the lower hose into napa, crossing my fingers, and seeing if they don't have a match.

I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it though, there seems to be a decent amount of work and stress with the head removal that will occupy my thoughts tomorrow after work. :-)

One thing you ought to remember is that currently the American dollar has massive buying power in Canada. Right now the film industry in BC "floweth over" ~ because of the weak Canadian dollar ~ it's so cheap to make a movie in Canada.

Yes I laughed at that fortunate portion of my misfortune as I was ordering parts. Instant 20% off sale :-D

Make sure you put some extra padding around the hose where it rubs on the alternator bracket , it can wear through over time.

Thanks for that tip gezzza. Everything is back in there. I settled for using the old lower rad hose since it only had 40k on it and it was going to take a few days for Napa to get one that I wasn't even sure would fit. I'll have to grab some hose claps and padding this weekend though.
