Marinco Block Heater Plug Mod

Post by Mr. Flibble »

After some googling I stumbled across the Marinco Block Heater Plug Mod. I realized that this would be an exciting mod for a delica. The auto-ejecting plug at the bottom is a great idea too.

What I also realized you could do to extend this mod is the following (assuming large load rated cables like those used in wiring a house):
  • ⭕️Add a permanent mount trickle charger like those waterproof ones seen on boats.
⭕️Add an extension plug designed to turn on the block heater and a battery warmer when the temperature is below a set amount.
⭕️Route a plug into the cabin so you can run electronics while plugged in camping.

Bin there done that but only on L300s. Haven't found a good spot to mount the Marinco 15 AMP plug on the L400s.

There seem to be good spots to mount the plug on the S1 bushbar, or directly into the body in front of the wheels on the sides of the van near the bumper.

I put mine low and behind the snorkel mounting hole, driver's side of my L300. As I was into that cavity already, it worked out well, and I will not miss it being plugged in as I climb into the driver's seat.

Downside was, unless you're putting in a snorkel, there are 2 pieces of sheet metal to drill through and then to have enough room on the inside to manage mounting it would otherwise be a challenge.

Am now thinking of adding on the same connections to the plug as you listed.

I apologize to bring back this thread, but I know that a member of this forum actually installed one of those marine outlet on the side of the sliding door. Another member in Whitehorse did the same mod. Who was it? I would like to contact him/her directly. I have a few questions and alternative ideas.

Cheers!

Fred
