Most of the major dealers have them. You can also import them from overseas, and they can be found on medium sized Caterpillar Earth Movers.

Its best to get a donor engine from the same model of Mitsu. If you get a 4M40 from a Pajero it may not fit exactly. The Pajero uses a different oil pan and the oil dipstick comes out in a different location compared to the L400.

And the Caterpillar route could present other challenges as that engine is bolted to a hydraulic pump system not a tranmission so the block bellhousing attchment configuration could be different. I know the fuel systems and oil fiilters are not in the same places and those parts are not interchangable. I have been to Caterpillar and did a oil filter comparison...not even close!
