Another annoying Vibration

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Another annoying Vibration

Post by sub-arctic »

Hey so I just did the front U joints after getting a wicked vibration on acceleration and deceleration, as well as at highway speeds. That cured that problem. Well now i have another issue. I am getting another vibration at speeds over 70km/h (thats where it starts) I unlocked the hubs, and the problem persists (I have manual locking hubs) Another potentially unrelated problem is the wheel lock light will not go out. Inspected front CV shafts, both outer boots are torn. Put trans in neutral and tried to rotate drive shaft to check u joint play, looks like there is a little play in the diff, but the joints seem to be tight. rear diff pinion seal is leaking as well.

My next course of action is going to be jack up the front wheels and make sure they are disengaging properly, Inspect the front driveline again, check and probably replace both diff fluids.

****Just had a thought that hopefully I didnt blow the rear diff because the pinion seal is leaking****

Winter kicked the crap out of the van. all the rubber parts have cold cracking in them too it looks like. gaaah.

Take the manual hubs out and do a full clean and re-grease. One might not be unlocking properly. And that would explain the light and potentially the vibration.

I would agree with Firesong, especially since the wheel lock light stays lit. And for where you are, probably an arctic type grease. (if that's not what is already in the grease guns at your shop)

Fixed the hubs today, During the winter I had to re torque the mounting bolts, and incorrectly set the retract springs in the manual locking hubs. took a bit of messing around, but I got them back together properly. Its all good now!
