Edmonton calling
Hi I'm Jason from Edmonton. Back in the day, living in Japan, I loved the Delica. Years later I spotted one or two on the streets and knew it was possible to get my dream Delica.
My wife and I have a Pajero-mini, and even thought I'm 6'4 I fit in with loads of head room.
We've decided to go ahead and get a Delica for our expanding family and really how many dream cars are affordable?! Now we just have to think about the type we want which brings me here for your experience and advice.

Re: Edmonton calling
I love my series II chamonix, 8 seater, cold weather package, amazing in this snow, drove through 2 feet of snow on my cousins farm field while he was plowing it, it goes through anything! only thing I hate about the series II is the front is like like a snow plow. A little to low to the ground for my like, approach angle isnt as great at the series 1, I plan on fabricating a full steel bumper for a better approach angle and a stronger front for crashing through the bush. If your family is quite big I would go with the LWB version as that extra little space would be nice, but then again you have to do 10 point turns in tight spaces. anyways thats just a few of my thoughts any more questions feel free to ask! im sure CREGAN would help you out as well,

Re: Edmonton calling
The only problem is that there are so many options in these Delicas, Gas vs diesel, long body vs short . ahhhh the choices. Trolling the posts on those subjects there is no one winner. Of course I was hoping one choice would be vastly better than another but the Delicas seem well made no matter the specs.
I love the big bull guard bumper, captain seats that turn 360 in the second row, sweet crystle lite roof.
I was going to base my choice on diesel and long wheel base but now I'm leaning towards the best price with the lowest milage.
thoughts comments?

Re: Edmonton calling
Hello Edmonton Delica owners. My bid at auction won me a 1997 Delica Super Exceed this past Friday. I am very excited, I'm told it will be about 10 days for them to run leak down test and get to see some more pictures.
So I had been searching for just over two months, and fortunately I had Sean at Zen auto works in Calgary from keeping me calm and stop me from bidding at every delica that came up.
In my limited experience I would recommend going with the Most options like the super exceed as you can always add more options like winterizing etc... There seems to be a psychological block on bidders who see vehicles around the 100 000 KM mark. Super exceeds with less than 80 000km's went for $13000 or more.. Mine at 96000km's went for just over $8000.. It is a 4 with B interior.
It is the series 2 with the new facelift, my only twinge of regret is there is no Bull Bar on the face lft models. I also went with the 3.0L V6. From what I gathered from these forums is that reliability and fuel economy is a wash, and it was the quieter gasser that one the day and are cheaper at auction.
Hope you have as much enjoyment and luck bringing in your Delica..

Re: Edmonton calling
Hi I'm going with Sean as well and having fun checking out the auction site. Yes, I was thinking the same about the 97, no rough looking bull bar but sounds like you got a nice one!
As for insurance does anyone have collision? For my pajero I looekd around and olny RBC would insure me but only the min.

TD Auto took care of me with full coverage in AB (Fort Mac), somewhere shy of $900/year. Can't recall what my deductables are off hand, but not too bad. That's for a '92 L300 (RHD, of course)...

I'm with RBC insurance and just have basic liability they wouldn’t provide collision. which is not what i'm looking for.

Re: Edmonton calling
Wow Congrats, that looks like a sweet ride. It certainly looks more like what I was expecting when looking for an L400. Mine which arrived in Vancouver yesterday certainly looks more Mini Van like from pictures than your machine. We will certainly have to meet up when yours gets here. I'm curious what price yours came to.
Now the waiting begins

Re: Edmonton calling
You are talking landed price, right? I just looked over the sold prices at auction, in the last three months there has only been about three vans at the 4b grade under 100 000 that sold for more than $5000. The vast majority are at, or around $1000 - especially gassers. The most desirable models (CLR, ect.) sometimes go for more, but even these can be often had for under $2000.Super exceeds with less than 80 000km's went for $13000 or more
I'm just curious.

Re: Edmonton calling
That's right Glen. I believe mine sold at $1700 cdn at auction and about $8500 delivered. I bid on 3 Super Exceeds before winning the one I got and they all went for $13000 or close to it landed. My importer out of Calgary thought that those bids were unusually high, I assumed it was the new reality as they get more popular. Fortunately I got mine for what I was planning on spending but perhaps one not as clean as I was seeing in other Delica's. for example mine has an aftermarket steering wheel, I have to assume the airbag deployed on original and the Inclometer (sic) is missing altogether.
