Hey there,
The last thing I posted on here was how expensive insurance is in Ontario for a right hand drive vehicle. So I'm at a buddy's place over the weekend and he's married to a Phillipino. He's a car guy like myself & well travelled to boot.
We got talking about the Delicas & he told me they have them in the Phillipines and they're left hand drive. We looked at a few web sites & sure enough, he was right. He said they get a lot of cars from Japan & convert them to left hand. These conversions look factory from what I can see.
So does anyone know what the deal on this is? Can you import a Delica from the Phillipines into Canada?
I had the website but misplaced it. It's in English & I'll post it when I find it.
Cheers

Yes, you can buy left hand drive Delica's but from what I understand, none of the glass is DOT and they often have high km.

Mardy from Amazing Auto will import one for you, but it's hard for him to guarantee what kind of condition it will be in.
philmeup1, I have my 93' L300 insured here in Ontario and I pay about $85/month. I think that's pretty good.

I'm new to this site and just realized that I put the topic left hand drive" in the member intros, Fail!!
Anyway, can you give me the insurance company you use for $85.00 a month?
I'm looking at a Delica form Bonsai Motors here in Ontario.
Thanks, philmeup1

LHD 1988 Mitsu L300 poptop overland camper down south.
For the cost of the vehicle and the opportunity cost of flying down and driving it up, it would make for a great experience.

Here is a full PDF of their rig, details, camperization and sale.

Hi,
as we are slightly finishing our expedition, we are looking for a new owner of our expedition vehicle. It is a left-hand drive Mitsubishi L300 (also called Delica) 4WD with pop-up roof. Built in 1988 so with no electronics, all-mechanical very durable car. Until now we did not have any serious technical problem with the car. 4WD + gear reduction took us through all bad roads. It is a Japan car so you can find plenty of spare parts anywhere in South America.
It is a van so do not expect too much space, but the interior is very smartly designed with focus to details. The vehicle is confortable for two people to live and travel for a long time. Good point is that in that car you do not look like a rich gringo and you are not in the center of (thief) attraction (most people think that we are local shared taxi "colectivo" and waving to us:-).
We are planning to travel until November 2012 and we would like to finish our journey in Central America, so we prefer to sell it there, but all is flexible.
More details on our blog:
http://cundr.jurisfoto.cz/p/expedicni-vozidlo.html
It is in Czech but you can download detailed technical description in English from there.
Thanks for all reasonable offers!

Hi,
price we are asking is USD 8400 - negotiable of course.
Best place for us to sell the car is Guatemala, where we would like to finish our yourney in the end of November. But all is flexible and we can arrange it according to your plans.
Please contact us by email: cundrdeamerica@email.cz
Thanks for all reasonable offers!

I'm with AllState. I also live in London where Bonsai Rides is located. Craig is a great guy to deal with.philmeup1 wrote:Anyway, can you give me the insurance company you use for $85.00 a month?

Super, thanks.
I actually called Craig and talked to him about the insurance and he's looking into it for me. I'm going down to London this week to see him. He seems like a nice guy and very knowledgable.
I'm excited to check out the van and maybe crack a deal.
