Can you guys confirm a symptom for me.
Left rear wheel.
Clear fluid coming from center hub on outside of rim.
Only seems to leak if wheel is in a certain spot.
(ie only leaks a certain path when that spot is down from the center)
I be thinking a wheel seal?

Re: Rear wheel seal leak
Taste a tiny dab of the fluid. Sulfurous and greasy is differential oil, bitter and watery is brake fluid, musky and rancid is dog pee (and then, whatever the fluid is, spit it out).
Or you could check your brake fluid level- if you're losing that much fluid I'd say it would have dropped.

Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

Rear wheel seal leak
I'll do that this week, not the taste test though. What's an approx cost for an axle seal replacement?
Thx

Re: Rear wheel seal leak
you can do it yourself if you have basic tools and a dry area to work in
rear end on jack stands
wheel off
drum off
disconnect parking cable
pull axle out. (retaining clip at diff) using a puller is easier
L or curved tool, pull the oil seal out and replace with a new one

Re: Rear wheel seal leak
I have to open the rear diff up to get at the retaining clip?
Sounds doable... I will check the brake lines etc for leakage..
pin point the leak.
I need to also take my front manual hubs apart... need greasing.
Very hard to turn.
Not hard to grease though..

Re: Rear wheel seal leak
for manual hubs I try to use marine grease or ATF. find reg grease dries up from the heat off the rotors when braking after time.
you don't need to remove the 3rd member (diff). just the brake drum and e brake cable.

Rear wheel seal leak
I greased the hubs. No problem. Now just have to address the slow rear leak.

Re: Rear wheel seal leak
Hi!
Does anyone know the actual size for the Rear Inner Axle seal?
Mitsi wants to charge me 35$$ here in NZ...
Cheers!!
Will
Edit: Sorry, I didn't know the topics are pushed up again!
Edit II: I just found the sizes 37-62-12.5 and 37-62-14 with no further specs, which one might be the right one?
