LONG time lurker, almost "real" member.

Post by DasBung »

Hi all.

Soo, it is finally time to make an introduction. Ive been viewing these forums heavily since about mid January, and have probably spent numerous hours, if not days, seeking out all kinds of pictures, info, and videos. Finally, as of next week I will be a true member! I am as mechanically inept as they come, so I wont be able to provide much assistance in that regard. However I would be thrilled to attend meets, go for drives, and share the tales of the (hopefully many) adventures to come.

Bit about how the Delica came to be. So as of last summer the plan was to work as much as possible, take the winter off and ski as much as one could. Come August I lost some of the courage needed to do so and decided to head back to school for the fall semester. As ski season arrived, literally the very first day for me (Nov 26th) on the fourth run I got hit from behind and blew out my knee.. Insert choice words for that for the unknown fellow. . Skied down on the other leg and headed for the Canmore hospital, where I found out the season was over for me. Was pretty bummed for a quite some time, realizing that this winter would not go as planned. However with all bad things there is always a silver lining. As January rolled around, I pondered what to do with the summers earnings/ now useless ski fund, and began to think of the Delica. The Delica has always been the dream vehicle, one you would see tucked in various ski parking lot corners for a few days, or puttering down snowy roads. While sightings were somewhat rare, I knew one day if I could ever afford one, I would hopefully join the ranks of the illusive van drivers.

Got into contact with William at JDM connection (separate bouquet post to come) and after many email the perfect van arrived. While a high roof would have been preferable, after reading on here that folks bigger than me camp/drive low roofs comfortably, I decided it was time. Now as the vans arrival/port clearance date comes (looking like around the 26th.. coincidence :-? ) the plan is to write/stress through the last exams, fly down, pick it up, head to CVI and West Coast alignment and take her home. Maybe a potential Whistler day as well..

First mods planned: Pyro/egr. Headlight protectors for the yellow lights. Maybe a Falco special "gopher grille" later (although mine won't be nearly as nice)

Quick question, does Rich(d) still sell those pyrometer/egr kits? Thanks in advance.

Thanks to ALL the members for the enormous amount of valuable info and stories posted that has provided me with hours of entertainment and made the Delica choice an easy one. Now to try and post the auction photos.

PS, I say it "Del-ee-cah" .

DasBung, welcome to Delica Canada :M

That is one pretty Chamonix, do you know what the VIN is yet? I think you will be very happy with the P25W as not only can you drive around a tree with the 88" wheel base but you can also get under the branches, not to mention most underground car parks.

I would strongly recommend walking wide of West Coast Alignment, they tend to dislike RHDs and like to screw with your torsion set-up (see: http://www.delica.ca/forum/don-t-waste- ... -5176.html ). Seeing as you are going to CVI anyway, get it done there. Regarding the Gopher Grille, they are simple to make, if you know what you are doing. Shoot me a PM when you are coming and I can hook up with you, if you wish.

I'm sorry to hear about your knee, I hope you have made a full recovery.

As far as being inept... when I first purchased the Miss Lil' Bitchi four years ago I knew just a little bit more than nothing. I am a painter, what do I know? Today, I know much more, generally because of this forum and some of the members there in.

Good to have you on board.

Falco.

Are you going to be able to ski next winter?

William's a good guy and thorough. You're in good hands from an importer point of view.

Chamonix is my favorite model and 1st Delica. Perfect fit for Edmonton (where I was born back in the days of 10 ft snow falls).

RichD still sells pyro kits and if you're at CVI, timing should be good. Shoot him a pm.

Thanks Falco, CVI it is! I should know sometime next week when I hope to head out there and will PM you once all is worked out. As for skiing, I went up to Jasper for the day about a week ago with not too much problems, other than my right ski sort it "flopping" around, next winter should be fine though. Ever want to go, send me a PM!
Thanks Jfarsang! I'll message Rich(D) and try and get it worked out.

Does anyone know if CVI would install the pyro? Or would it be better just to attempt it solo?

Cheers,

Max.

Don't post it up, DasBung ~ the reason I asked is because we have a feature in Delica FAQ called JDM On Line Catalogue (see the thread: Useful Links for Vehicle Part Identification Purposes.) where when you enter your VIN in the Mitsubishi field it will tell you detailed information about your specific wagon, such as model details, date of manufacture, all the OEM numbers of the parts that make up your wagon, &c.. So if you need to know what year your vehicle was made it will tell you which day in that year it was made, as well.

Slight change of plans, leaving tomorrow morning. Time has dictated no ski days this weekend sadly, but if you see a nervous looking Delica driver, don't hesitate to wave!! I'll keep my head on a swivel for others.

Cheers,

Max.
