Caterpillar Parts Interchange

Post by Feds »

The Caterpillar 308D CR compact hydraulic loader uses a Turbo 4M40 engine. Big difference is that the engine is only rated at 56hp or some such. This may be a function of the rev limiter, but I'm not sure.

Running through the parts list, it looks very much the same as the engine in my van. Oil/air/fuel filters look different though.

That said, I'm having some maintenance parts checked:

139-7935 Bus Bar
139-7923 Valve cover gasket
099-3209 Valve cover top seal

My discount might be big, but the prices for the soft parts don't look too bad (comparable to BC Delica dealers). If you're not super local to a JDM dealer, your local CAT/Battlefield rental store might be of some assistance.

*EDIT* Cat dealer says glow plugs are 24V.

Thanks!!! There has to be more interchangeable parts from other heavy equipment suppliers. I herd that someone buying oil filters for L400 in bulk.

I just had some seals redone on my thermostat and had one from a CAT and another from a Detroit Diesel.

Gotta love a good frankensteiner fix.

It may have 24V glow plugs (and electrics feeding it) in their application, but that doesn't mean it isn't the same engine. Just makes for a faster/hotter starting. It'd be nice to have a 24V system in my Pajero.

24v starting system is amazing (on Safari's). Could only think it would benefit the 4M40 in our winters.

I wonder if a 24V glow plug system could be retrofit into a 12V vehicle...
