hi
who has this filter? has anybody experienced air leaks? im sure its the filter housing, somewhere. i can see bubbles coming out, but not going in. ive got the top mounted filter heater in there. i recently changed the filter but ive done about 500km before the ail leak started.
ive got one hose coming from the tank into the filter, the other 'in' port is plugged. ive got one hose going out to my heat exachanger, and the return from IP goes in to the other 'out' port. that return has a 3 way valve so i can send return to the tank instead of the filter
btw, i found a shop in vic that sells the baldwin filters for $20

if it's popping out bubbles see if Andrew will exchange it for another. If not, maybe opt for a new heated filter.. vegmax2.. The FM100 can be had for cheap. $60ish from various online veg shops.

does your return three way valve leak or have a one way "check valve" on the return hose? if not, the way you have it hooked up, you will be sucking air from the top of the tank on the return line.
if not, disconnect a couple of your hoses, close the loop on itself, pressure it up with some compressoed air and throw some soapy water on the filter, hoses, and housing to find the leaks.

i didnt get it from andrew. the only supplier i could find for it was thedieselstore.com and with shipping plus brokerage i ended up paying over $200 (including the top load heater, i bought a side load heater but ordered the wrong thread and it wasnt worth the cost of shipping to return it)jfarsang wrote:if it's popping out bubbles see if Andrew will exchange it for another. ive got an automatic 3 way valve for return from IP but then a manual 3 way ball valve 'tween there and the return inlet on the filter housing. even if i send the return to the tank, even when it is not connected to the filter, i get a bubble.rezdiver wrote:does your return three way valve leak or have a one way "check valve" on the return hose? if not, the way you have it hooked up, you will be sucking air from the top of the tank on the return line.

in other news.. yesterday on the way back from town i was losing power big time.. even on diesel!! im crapping my pants thinking the IP is bagged.. but thats another thread for another day...

Re: Stanadyne filter FM100 air leak problem
if you are having problems with air in your system and suddenly you lost power, i would think the cause would be related in your plumbing. sucking in air will definately cause you to lose power.
do the quick leak test and see if you find it. see if you can include as much of the system in your leak test as possible. by this i mean include hoses, connectors, junctions, valves, etc, instead of taking a hose off close to the filter take the hose off right at the IP pump and block it off. pressure up, soap it down and you will find it.
fix the simple stuff before condeming the IP pump.

Re: Stanadyne filter FM100 air leak problem
im gonna wait til after the wknd to deal with this. i will get to the bottom of the air leak, however regarding loss of power, i think it aint air, i just hope it is. i have a sight filter, there is always a bubble in it when in diesel, but that bubble isnt traveling to the IP. but no, i won condemn the IP just yet

Re: Stanadyne filter FM100 air leak problem
the loss of power on diesel problem was the result of a broked vacuum sensoy thingy. the hose nipple broke right off the sensor thats attached in the engine compartment right against the passenger wheel well. lucky i have a parts van..easy fix!
ive eliminated the filter and ill test it for air leaks. although im still getting some bubbles without it. its pretty much a direct line form the tank to the heat exchanger with a TEE for the return (return to tank, or return to loop, both some bubbles) which is really sickening because the only other connection is at the tank, with 2 hose clamps and it seems very unlikely to me that those would fail and allow air in.. and i cant reach them w/o dropping the tank!
