Getting plated in ontario

Post by dlibbey »

Hey all,

FYI: if you're planning to get a JDM vehicle going in ontario, make sure you're insurance co. sends a note to the MTO to have your VIN added to the 'exception list' of MTO's VIN registry. This new program is to help cops spot uninsured vehicles (I think). I had quite the ordeal to get my vehicle added to this list partly because my insurance co sat on the info for a few days, running my plate stickers out of date. Taking matters in my own hands, I contacted MTO, who referred me to the Insurance Board of Canada. Dealt with an extremely helpful gentleman there. The day after he got things handled for me, he received the info from the insurance co. I'd like to give the ins co a piece of my mind, but with very few options to get insurance for RHD here, I won't.

Keep the dirty side down.

Cheers

I went to the MTO office today, and got sent away. I was trying to re-register a Subaru Legacy which I have owned for two years! I have the feeling that the exceptions list is to alert Insurance companies that the insured vehicle "may" be RHD. My company is aware (and I have three other RHD's currently insured with them) so I'm sure it wont be a problem. But definitely frustrating....
