West End Vigilante

Post by Airgonzo »

Funny story:

So my wife took our van down Dunbar today to run some errands. She was in the bank for a few minutes and when she came out there was a sheet of paper tucked under the wiper of the Mighty Spacegear. . .but this wasn't a speeding ticket or advert pamphlets or religious propaganda. It was a typewritten note that said (to the best of my recolletction as she just dictated it to me over the phone and I haven't seen it yet):

This is Canada and we drive on the left side, Asshole.
Get this piece of shit off the road.

Wow! Pretty damn hilarious.

And then you wonder who the hell is this freak with a bag full of leaflets prowling the streets of Vancouver looking for offending RHD vehicles to plaster with his hate letters.
Just Bizare. I hope someone catches the loser and gives him a job or something. He obviously needs something better to do with his time.

LOL!!!

Sounds like somebody with an agenda or an axe to grind. Obviously a motivated individual, with a healthy dose of initiative.

But I'm going to show a card on the play for semantics: the author actually got it wrong - we actually do drive on the right... side of the road that is. Because they failed to identify WHAT is being driven on the left side, it could be an ambiguous interpretation.

What fails to amaze me is how people can look at an old English car - say a nice ol' Jaguar or an MG - and seeing the driver on the right-side of the vehicle, say "Cool!". But when it's a JDM, somehow that's "dangerous" or "wrong" and that we're "assholes" for driving them - what's up with that?

Maybe it's a disgruntled NAMPOS car salesmen. :?

Grins..... when they confront me and tell me that my steering wheel is on the wrong side I usually inform them that it is in fact on the right side.

If you ever see these people be sure to remind them that originally Canada drove right hand drive vehicles on the left side of the road and the first recorded traffic accident only occurred when we switched over to appease the Americans in 1920. So really ~ you're just being patriotic, what's their problem? Also, find out if they are left handed ~ then you could persecute them

I find that I actually have fewer blind spots in my L300 than I did in my Plymouth Voyager. In the end it's all about lane discipline, something that many Canadians lack whichever side of the vehicle they sit.

Falco.

By the way, any chance you could post an image of this "ticket" in this thread?

I'm still a bit confused what EXACTLY is people's issue with RHD (JDM only?) vehicles. Do they think that because we buy these imports, that we're not putting money into the Canadian economy, or not supporting North American auto makers? It just doesn't make sense.....

I'd say a price of crap is most of what America produces. Even the Korean manufacturers have stepped up their game and surpassed them. The British and French cars might still be a lower quality but at least the have character. :-D

Back to the op though, it's crazy to think that people have nothing better to do with their day.

I'd go park in the same place again and wait for the tough guy to come back. Then you could let him know that "This is Canada. We make great knuckle sandwiches. POW!"

The funny thing is his note means nothing as it is written. We drive on the left side of the road too...our steering wheel is just located ~3 feet to the right.

Canada's bilingual, non? Hide in the bushes, like Psilosin recommends and when s/he comes again jump out with the note in your hand and tell them that you want it written in both languages, as you are Canadian and it is your inherent right under the Constitution. Have them correct the grammar while you're at it and get them to rewrite it out one hundred times after class.

For what it's worth - I've had my Delica for four years now, and I have not had a single incident of anti-RHD sentiment. I think these guys are far and few between. He's probably jealous!
