Teflon Tape?

Post by dfnder »

On my rudimentary wvo filtering system I have used teflon tape on a couple of pipe connections. Well recently I changed things up a little and took apart one of them and the teflon tape seems to be deteriorated more than I would have expected. Does anyone have a comment or know if teflon is the wrong tape to use?

Cheers, Peter

Its supposed to do that. Just clean up the pipe and apply a new band.

Teflon tape is a lubricant that allows tapered thread (NPT) to marry with each other tight which is what creates the seal. It allows you to get a pipe threaded into a fitting further.

You don't need it on straight thread.

Only small concern with teflon tape is that it can break down and make its way into your system hence you`d be better to use the paste one instead of the tape one. But as Kuan said, just clean and re-apply...
