Not understanding the local issues why don't importers simply but LHD L300 and L400s (not from Japan) and smaller 2500TDi engines but still a very similar car.
The L400s have better seats and twin sliding doors as well in the LHD models.

Typically by the time the vehicles reach the 15 year mark they have high kilometers on them. The ones from Japan are unique in this aspect because they aren't driven as much. (there are many reasons for this) The other reason is that most of the LHD ones do not have as many extra's in them. I don't import vehicles but word travels quickly. There are some importers that try to bring in LHD Delica's from Taiwan etc but it doesn't seem like they've been very successful.

Personally I prefer the RHD style. I see the traffic better for when I pull out, the view is panoramic and the B pillar isn't cutting off anywhere near as much angle as it would be, were I in the left seat. When overtaking I have the benefit of seeing the long term traffic from the right side of vehicle in front ~ and quite frankly, if you can't see enough to safely pass from sitting in the right seat... you're probably tailgating.

I was also informed that it is safer in a front on collision because you will typically be hit on the left hand side. This means your passenger will get the worst of it but at least you can stay in control of the vehicle and save your own life. Gruesome as this may be, it begs the question. Would you rather live with the knowledge of "If I was driving a LHD it could have been me and not them" or would you rather be actually driving a LHD vehicle and be both killed anyways because once your side is hit no one is controlling the vehicle?

Only true advantage to RHD is how easy it is to step out to the sidewalk and watch the accident instead of being in it....
The only other advantage I see is the enjoyment that turning on the wipers every time you attempt to signal especially if you drive a few different cars..

Because the "issue" has nothing to do with being RHD - it has to do with a perceived threat to the used car market by these fantastic JDM's. LHD are not easier to import in any way, once they are 15yo. Really, one key attraction to these vehicles is that they are from Japan and are in unusually great condition. I'd be curious to know if any LHD delicas are being imported into Quebec where RHD have been banned.

Re: If there an RHD issue in Canada why don't u buy LHD Deli
at least in the land cruiser world, there are slim pickings for good LHD diesel cruisers from europe. and in s.america, good luck trying to find one in clean low mileage condition, t hey are all overworked with high miles and beat up interiors (unless you get lucky and find one from some gov't NGO of some sort) and have sometimes been bush repaired/mcgyvered b/c of lack resources/parts/funds/properly trained mechanics (at least this is what i've read a few times). ALL the lhd cruisers i've seen here, at least in s. ontario, are in really rough shape, most from europe. i'm sure the same goes for other lhd diesels from europe/s.america. jdm's the way to go really. rhd is just a thing we have to deal with, lol, 2 cents.

The other advantages being that cyclists are easier to see and the ability to have a comfortable conversation with the person idling in traffic beside you.

Re: If there an RHD issue in Canada why don't u buy LHD Deli
Who says there's an issue with RHD's in Canada? After more than five years of persistent importing, there is a very established market at this point.
The premier reason for selecting vehicles to import from the Japanese market is availability: they've got lots of used vehicles to get rid of, and we appreciate and want good quality vehicles at a reasonable price.
Truth is, a lot if JDM at 15 years old are in considerably better shape than most NAMPOS of a similar age.
