Well I bumped the 6'8" barrier

Post by Firesong »

Bumped it going into the parking lot at WestEd mall, it was a swinging chain type
and thought oops. All was well until I was going out. Right at the bottom before you
go out onto the street a 7' barrier. Not a swinger.. it was solid.. up the sides welded
to the across beam... Holy cow!

I stopped a foot from it.. going down the ramp.. 7 cars following me.
...
....
I opened the door and eased my teenie rack up to it.. damn
it was too high. 4 kids in the back, a wife looking at me funny...
Ok, what to do.. thinking that there was no way all those city people
cars and women ;) drivers would be able to back up onto the roof again...

First thought.. see if I can lower the top bar on the rack since it's there
to place a canoe on top of.. if it could move it would gain me 1/2 inch.
Second thought was to lower pressure in tires since I do carry an air pump.

I was able to move the bar... squeezed under it and get through... 2 of the cars
had backed up.
Question.. why put a barrier at the bottom of the ramp going onto the street.
It's only on the way out.. I don't get it?

I should have taken a picture.. too funny. Although I was getting a tiny bit stressed.

:)

That does seem stupid, but not much at the mall actually makes sense anyway! I personally have not gotten over the phobia of confined or cramped space in my Delica yet so I stay away from parking lots like that and parkades. I get scared parking my normal car at WEM!

I have gone in the West Ed lot a number of times with no trouble. Those "6-8" barriers are just to give a buffer to the 7-2 areas. I have never come accross anything that I could hve ever damaged my vehicle with. Just go through gently so you don't scartch your paint.

the height of my deli has me somewhat concerned too, because if i buy a condo it will probably have underground parking. i hate parking on the street... :-(

Just to clarify for some.. they had a swinging barrier at the entrance going up on the west side to the theater. 178? I believe... Going down (and out) it Was NOT a swinging barrier.. Literally a full welded barrier up the sides and over.. (same side just a little north of the enter is the exit) and back down. Really dumb. I wedged myself through it to get out barely. Stupid thing.

Ah well, like I said.. I should have taken a picture although that would have sent the wife into crazy land.

hehe
