Not sure about numbers but I like the idea!Hello everyone!
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Because of that, gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On April 15th 2011, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $1.35 a liter in most places.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on April 15th and let's try to put a dent in the oil industry for at least one day.
If you agree PLEASE send this to as many people as you possibly can!

Sounds like a good idea, especially considering the cost of fuel lately.
And it's only going to get higher... because summer is coming... and there was a tanker that missed it's port of call last week... and that captain was drunk on watch... and a chipmunk farted... and Venus is on the rise... and whatever other crap reason the industry can put forth as justification of their seasonal adjustment.

Re: Don't pump gas on April 15th!!!!!!
Sounds like the 16th will have long line-ups......... I can not remember the reason why these gas protest days are suppose work, avoiding a calender day will in no way change my annual consumption (suspect the same for others).
Anyway, scouts honour that I will not pump gas on April 15th!!!!!
no promise on diesel though.........

Re: Don't pump gas on April 15th!!!!!!
I'm definitely going to the pumps on the 15th. Hopefully the oil company's will hear about this and lower prices that day and if not at least there will be no line-ups
Basically it just means that more people will pump on the 14th and 16th to compensate and total fuel sales will, most likely for the week and almost certainly for the month, be the same.

Sorry for the rant but this sounds like an old misleading story. You should learn some economics here

Well, I know it will not work as I want to but at least we'll raise public awareness.Profister wrote:Sorry for the rant but this sounds like an old misleading story. You should learn some economics here

There is noway I'll rid of my 5A grade 19.000 km Pajero, even more I can say, if gas would be around $0.80/L I have two more cars...RHD of course...
Seriously, looks nobody cares why Canada import own oil to US and gas(produced from Canadian oil) in US sells for less? Sounds crazy? Give me a link to learn such economics please

Those poor gas stations attendants have nothing to do with gas prices, so you better protest closer to the oil companies headquarters.

Re: Don't pump gas on April 15th!!!!!!
A friend of mine on another blog received and posted the following email...
THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.00 PER LITRE.
This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.
Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!
I hear we are going to hit close to $ 1.50 a litre by this summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action.
The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas ..
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $.99 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.29 at SUNOCO and ESSO for regular unleaded in Hamilton and Ottawa and climbing every week.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $.87 to .99, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.
The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.
But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one),SUNOCO(PETRO CANADA)andESSO.
If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of SUNOCO(PETRO CANADA) and ESSO gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician But I am .. so trust me on this one.
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we
can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy fromSUNOCO(PETRO CANADA)/ESSO UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $.79 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

I think that's a much better idea! When I get off my phone and onto my computer I'll be spreading the word. All gas stations base their prices on competitors so definitely a promising way to go. Personally I never buy from them anyways but that's for other reasons.

Re: Don't pump gas on April 15th!!!!!!
My kids and I have been riding our bikes to and from school for the last week, I haven't started my van for a couple days. I won't be buying fuel, because I don't need it. I love driving, and I love my van - we do tones of road trips every year. However, I can't say I enjoy driving my van in the 10K radius around my house - it hardly even gets warmed up.
I know I'm not going to get much support on this idea on this forum, but . . . gas prices need to be much higher than they are, they are artificially cheap and are gas companies are heavily subsidized by all of us to keep our current economic regime propped up. Imagine the jobs that could be created by shifting those subsidies from big oil to other technologies. Not to mention, higher fuel costs might stem the flow of consumer good from China that have killed the North American manufacturing middle class - widening the gap between the richest and poorest North Americans.
I digress, - but when you consider how huge the subsidies to big oil are, any protest from the consumer is anemic at best.
