Mitsubishi Mighty Max vs Delica

Post by nxski »

I'm acquiring a 1995 Mitsubishi Mighty Max on Monday as a work truck but as the truck will only be used for a year I'm wondering if there are components on it that I may be able to salvage. Has anyone had experience with these trucks? I've only taken a quick look at it and the alternator looked similar, the wheels look like they have the same bolt pattern etc. Any chance I could salvage some parts to use on my Delica L300 before I scrap the truck a year from now?

Thanks

Your truck is not a Mitsubishi Raider,it's a Mitsubishi Mighty Max.Dodge had a twin a of it,the dodge ram 50.The Mitsubishi Raider is bigger, newer and it's not a true Mitsubishi. It's a dodge dakota dressed as a Mitsubishi.A NAMPO.Not really good.
Yours is a really good little truck.Looks like you have the 3.0l V6.Check for timing belt.Really important to change it every 96000km.
Check for Strada on the forum.Same as your truck but quad cab and diesel.
Before my Strada,i was having a Ram 50 with a 2.4l 4cyl 2wd.Really though.I've sold it with more than 300000km on it.The body was really rusty but mechanically perfect. It's still rolling.

You just have to make frequent maintenance(oil change every 5000km,oil,fuel+air filter, grease chassis,etc...

Strada and Mighty Max are the same truck,so the parts are practically the same. Many parts are also the same as Delica.

Your are lucky to find it.Treat it well.

Excellent, thanks for the correction, I've edited my post. Timing belt and all other belts have just been done, clutch was just replaced, greasing and and all new bushings have been put on, etc... it is due for an oil change soon and the rear diff speed sensor needs to be replaced but following that, the mechanics look to be perfect so for $2200 it seemed like a bargain.

Don't scrap it.It seems to be in really good condition.
2200$ is good price if the milleage is not too high.
Keep it or sell it but don't scrap it!

The engine is the 6g72,the same that is in the V6 L400 Spacegear, some Pajero-Montero.
I'm pretty sure that brakes are the same as L300 Starwagon and Pajero MK1.
Differentials are bigger and stronger cause it's a V6.Complete housing can be swapped to L300 and Pajero MK1.Probably to L400 with some modification.
In many way,it's better than a toyota of the same era.The frame is stronger than a toyota and the powertrain can do a lot a kilometer with good maintenance.
They were less popular than toyota cause they were expensive and very little available.

You can also look at Mitsubishi Triton.

That is what we call them here in Australia.

I am providing you with a link to a 4wd mag in Australia.

Thanks for all of the replies. When I say 'scrap' it's because my boss currently owns the vehicle as I bought it with his money and I'm trying to figure out if it would be worth it to buy it off of him for $1200 after a year and then use certain components to upgrade my L300. I was thinking the rims and tires would be a good combination with my lift if they fit etc.
At any rate, I may be showing up to the next few Deli meets in a Mitsubishi truck, I hope that's alright with everyone :-D

Since it was a captive import, you shouldn't have too much trouble maintaining it - it'd be easier than a JDM, possibly.

Nice looking truck, and if you do 'salvage' parts from it for your L300, well, it may be worth it.

A bit of trivia for you falco.

The first ute was made for an Australian farmers wife so she had something nice to go to church on Sunday.

Just drove her for a decent amount of time today. She's getting a once over by a mechanic, an oil change and rear speed sensor replaced and then off to work I go!
All seems to be in good working condition :-)

I have a client that does a twin turbo conversion for the SS variant.

They start with 200kw plus at the rear wheel .after they produce 400kw at the rear wheel.

They export these kits the the States for the Pontiac's(Holden Commadore Australian,Bathurst, etc)

Assume it's a 5spd then....so might be worth checking if the trans will work with a 4D56/L300. Differentials as well. Would be interesting to know if the trans & diff gear ratios are different (taller/higher) than on the manual trans. L300s, since the latter are a tad too low geared to be ideal for our roads.

With a V6 it may have slightly taller/higher gearing as the engine would produce power/torque at a lower RPM than the 2.4L 4cyl gasser those came with... but maybe not at much different RPMs than a diesel 4D56.

If trans is compatible with Delica then even if yours is an Auto, would be worth salvaging to sell (maybe to me one day, though hopefully not, knock on wood  )
