What to do with rusting bumper?

Post by IslandPajero »

Good afternoon,

I have had my '93 Pajero for 3 years and love it!

Recently I noticed the rear bumper is rusting. (pics below) I store it inside and wash it all the time. Any ideas on how to stop or slow this?

Thanks for your time.

  • Go to London Drugs;
  • purchase a container of CLR;
  • follow the appropriate directions for removing rust, but be careful not to scratch the chrome around it (perhaps use an artist's brush to apply the solution);
  • once rust staining is removed and the surface is dried, coat the local area with a clear alkyd based urethane to keep the rust from coming back.

ahh, looks like reall minor chrome rust, you can also try autosol from can. tire and a toothbrush and just work it through (brush a tiny bit and scrub till gone, wont take long, then wipe off), it'll come off like magic and polish the chrome, and might as well polish the whole thing with just a dab of the stuff and some elbow grease, i guarantee shiny rustfree results!

do you guys use rust contorl out in the west coast like krown? wonder what it looks underneath?
