Yes, yes, yes!

But, our whole economy, and probably our whole culture revolves around the car, and getting and keeping as many people behind the wheel as possible. Why do you think we can spend 5 billion dollars plus on a bridge and highway that only serves to continue an unsustainable model of suburban sprawl into agricultural land - and during a recession! If you look at the new communities that are springing up throughout the fraser valley - you can't even walk to a corner store to get a jug of milk.
Or a "better" highway to Wristler etc.... We need to run out of oil tomorrow or it is going to be to late if it is not already....

If the fine is the deterrent it has to be tied to income....if the fine is a tax grab or to cover the cost of writing the ticket it should remain as it is.

Because a $250. dollars means different things to different people.

Yeah, money is not the answer....... based on income? Naw, seperation of class, nah....... historically proven ineffective........

Lose the class separation, keep it a level playing field and do something that works!

public caning :mrgreen:
- simple
- cheap
- proven deterrent by other countries

....... and when corporal punishment fails, bump it up a notch! Less excuses for people, take a little ownership for your existence.

Fines and jail time are just endless loops that do not work.

Just not the north american way, we prefer excuses and 5th, 6th...... chances for people ............

whoa, I guess I'm a meany......... or just realistic :-?

Photo radar is definitely on shaky legal ground in Canada, which is why every jurisdiction where someone has attempted to take a ticket to the Supreme Court has canceled their program, rather than face the very real prospect of having it declared unconstitutional and having to pay back all the fines they've collected.

On the other hand, slowing people down in certain locations, such as school zones, is probably a good idea. But there are better ways to do it. For example, polite signs reminding people that there may be children on the road have been shown to be more effective than photo radar at slowing people down, and don't potentially violate anyone's legal rights. I'm of the opinion that one should at least try the velvet glove before hitting someone with the iron fist.

On highways (as opposed to urban streets), studies have clearly shown for decades that the drivers with the lowest probability of being involved in an accident are those driving at 10 to 20 percent above the speed limit. So enforcing speed limits is of limited value, if not even counter-productive, on the highway, right from the get-go.

So, when you sum it all up, photo radar is a legally questionable, less-than-optimally effective way of trying to make the roads safer. It is, however, relatively easy to sell to one's constituents, so it remains popular with politicians.

That is just one of the POS art sculptures! We have a giant baseball bat that cost 400G. They wanted to make a statue a couple months ago of homeless people to show we support them......instead of actually building them homes?
Not to totally revisit this thread, I just wanted to show how the local newspaper pranked Edmontonians yesterday. Everyone hates this sculpture so much they pretended a new one was to made of gold costing 5 million. Sad thing is some people believed them. Shows how well the city of Edmonton is being ran. Enjoy

Well even though I sold my silly fast car three years ago... and bought a silly right hand drive " van" that barely does the posted speed limit on the highway going down hill and with a tail wind, I ( hope i dont get jynx'd) havent had a ticket at all... and for some silly reason I don't feel the need to be a stupid agressive ALBERTA driver any more. On this note on our calgary meet this past saturday pics soon i hope Ian... ha ha we had our vans in places that was a whole lot more fun than blasting down the road. Dont get me wrong going fast is fun especially in a controlled environment but going slow trying to not get stuck in silly deep ice ruts with water and trying to go up hills that are rediculous...and the best part is being someplace having a weenie roast and many BIG jeeps go driving by and the look on the faces of them wondering how the hell we got in here with those " VANS" . this to me is just as fun.... 8-)
