one problem I foresee though is that most of those vehicles won't have as vertical a windshield as we do, there's a high risk of the pod facing the roof instead of the driver...

dealt with this and skylines, Lordco or even better for you mainlanders Mopac, should be able to order you an Autometer RHD gauge pod, in two or three openings I believe. They may even stock a few.

For my Celica GT Four, I believe we used something like the ATM-23685 (89-92 Supra 2 gauge 2 1/16")...since it was a Toyota and a similar vintage to my Celica.
Since the Delica windshield is more vertical, the guages would certainly point upward more, but if the gauges were mounted low on the A pillar it may look alright. Another concern is A-pillar thickness. The A pillar on my Celica appears to be a fair bit thicker than the Delica, so a lot of these pods might look a bit goofy without some modification.
If you'd like me to take specific measurements of my A-pillar pod, lemme know. I'd rather not take that pod off of the A-pillar, so the measurements would be with the pod in place.

I'm going with Garyo's style. I was going to put it below the stereo but din't like to have it hidden down there. I prefer to have it "in my face". And that inclinator kept leaking on me so good excuse to replace it. I'm keeping the altimeter 'cause I probably use it more to tell what's coming weather wise than my altitude. The in/out temperature gauge is staying for now but might get replaced with a boost gauge, not sure yet. I've properly set my boost now (from 7psi up to 12) so I'm happy for now.
The gauge is a Autometer model 4344 (2 1/16"), you need to trim a little of the faceplate to make it fit in that whole but fairly easy.

Actually, I don't think that would be a problem. If the pod is mounted low on the pillar -- which it needs to be to avoid the grab handle -- sure it would point upwards, but the bottom of the pillar is far below eye height compared to other vehicles, so I suspect the gauges would point up at your eyes, rather than too high.Green1 wrote:one problem I foresee though is that most of those vehicles won't have as vertical a windshield as we do, there's a high risk of the pod facing the roof instead of the driver...

After 2 months of research and install options I finally completed my gauge install. The most time consuming part was gauges and gauge location. The gauges I chose were Glow Shift with a black face. I chose the black face to get the Pyro with a 1600 degree span. I installed a volt meter, boost gauge and pyrometer. The gauge options I reviewed included Autometer and DiPricol. The DiPricol is likely the best as it offers LED illumination c/w a dimming wire to the instrument panel as well as a built in Potentiometer to set the illumination comparable to the remainder of your gauges. Autometer has an LED option in their catalogues but they are difficult to get. The Glow Shift were basically purchased on price as I could get all the gauges for little more than the Pyro from the others. ( You get 10% off by using the Coupon Code: 08Shipping.) In addition, they can be changed to 7 different colors @ any time using a button on the front. The gauges seem to be reasonable quality but DO NOT HAVE A DIMMING lead. In the case of the Delica this doesn't matter as the dash lights don't dim. I think by choosing the right night color this won't matter much.
The gauge Pod looked like a great idea on the web page but when it came the gauges were pointed a little to the left, as would be nice if you had a LHD vehicle. I used it anyway but did the install with 2 sided tape and velcro to keep my options open if I find the angle bothers me. I do like the location as it is very easy to see movements and I was surprised how fast the pyro moves and how the boost is almost always on at highway speeds. The voltmeter is great to watch glow plug operation.
The install was fairly straight forward. The location chosen for the pyro install was based on ease of access and I know that it will read low compared to closer to the turbo. This is easy to compensate for. The boost just Tee-ed into the boost hose on top of the engine. The voltmeter and lighting was picked up from the radio connection as it was the easiest access point.
The gauge Pod looked like a great idea on the web page but when it came the gauges were pointed a little to the left, as would be nice if you had a LHD vehicle. Great looking install and pics, lrp374. Do you find that the gauges block much of your view being mounted on top of the dash like that? Where did you purchase the guage pod from?

glowshiftdirect.com is the cheapest I've found
The blue digital gauge combo's are nice for the $
From two guys I know who used them in the past, both said the glowshift gauges lost their accuracy quickly and the quality is sub-normal for gauges.
These guys both race track so I guess they're picky with gauges.

The Pod and gauges come from www.glowshift.com as Jessie indicated. The gauge location doesn't bother vision ,unless your very short, you only look out the top half of the windshield.

Awesome installs guys. Love the photos.. I am sold. I've been shopping around for a boost and volt gauge but now I think I'll do pyro as well and just get the kit of 3.
Questions!
-the egt kits come with everything you need? or I'll need to pick up a die/tap whatever and anti-seize?
-how annoying will it be getting a power drill up there near the turbo?
-how are you liking your gauges and mounting location lrp374? david?

The Pyro I got from Lordco cost me $210 for the full kit. I've seen one for sale on Craigslist from someone parting a truck for much cheaper (autometer as well). I'd buy a good one and cheap out more on the boost, priority!
You only need boost for this application. Try to get a lower psi reading (15-20psi...) so it's easier to read accurately. Our 12psi doesnt' register much on those 60psi gauge!
You can tap your pyro probe on the downpipe just below the spring loaded bolts. Makes it easier to install and you'll get to know what temp. is right for your truck so not a big deal (ie. it might register 100 degrees lower but you'll get to know what's your upper limit as soon as you go up the cut).

I have been thinking about this for the Miss Lil' Bitchi. One place I thought would be good for mounting dials would be into that great big blank space right above the glove box. Three nice angled dials in a bezel with easy access from behind. They would be in my general view of the port mirrors, but not in the way of anything. What do you think of that?
