Inclinometer Repair

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Hi! We have just removed the 3 pod instrument bank off the dashboard. There do not seem to be any screws on the front, just the back. We see 8 screws, 2 of which seem to be holding the electrical connector on, to get to the instruments, are all of the other six screws to be removed? And then does the back simply come away from the rubber front? Is there any adhesive or sealant between the back and the front?

We have reviewed the photos in previous posts, but I'm still unclear exactly how to remove the individual instruments.

We see that a suggestion was made to use mineral oil or gyclerin, and we wonder if anyone has determined which would be the correct replacement fluid?

I wonder if anyone has taken the inclinometer in for repair and if so to whom have they taken it in the Vancouver area. If the bowl is cracked (we are leaking oil so this might be a possibility) is a replacement available? Or does anyone have one they would be interested in selling?

Thanks!

Hi Fionna,
I can't help with the details of taking a pod apart, but if you contact ccautos (250 954-2157) www.coombscountryautos.com, I'm certain Glen has a full working replacement pod or three for sale... :-D

I recently had to fix an inclinometer with the same problem (stuck on an angle)... A past owner had nearly done the same thing described above (tried to tear the face off without undoing the screws), leaving some broken plastic. It appears as though my inclinometer never had any fluid in it (??) -- unless someone removed the seal from the back and drained it.

In any case, the problem was that a short metal pin that comprises one of two pivots had fallen out of place. I was able to tweeze it back into place and fix the broken plastic, and now the inclinometer works again, fluid-free and all (though it's probably a little bouncier than one properly filled with oil).

Cheers --
Alec

I gutted mine and installed the GPS in it. Wiring came up through from down below. It turned out ok. When the van comes back from paint shop I'll post a photo.

it would be cool to just replace it with a illuminated compass like this:

but i would really like to see pics of a GPS mod. :-)

Here they are. This was a hurry up job so I'm sure something slicker looking could be accomplished. It works good however and I'm
pleased with it for the present. Note the revolutionarily correct sunshade/anti theft device.

As the general consensus appears to be that I do not know what I'm talking about, and cause more harm than good, I am removing this post so that others are not tricked in to following my ill-advised instructions.
