Metal Fabrication / Skid plates - ***Drawings***

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Love the individual touch on those ones. What was the total damage all said and done?
The way I off-road is that if something is steep like a ditch, I will inch into it, if I hear a scraping sound I stop
Your inching down causes your van to want to endo :) I Wish I had captured some of the better examples from that day, there were a few good ones riding the brakes.

Very true, the inching was to save the radiator guards of which I did sheer off one (it's back in place now though). There was absoloutely no damage to the skid plate thankfully.
I suppose whipsaw was more like inch-inch-inch-clench and let go of the brakes. :-D

Downloads for a PDF fully dimensioned drawing, PDF one to one scale drawing and DXF outline file for a waterjet cutter (in a ZIP folder).
All for an automatic transmission L300 Delica.

*EDIT: Bend diagram attached. Drawings have been revised June 11th, 2012

Thanks to NXSKI for releasing this for FREE to the world. LOL!
Happy Bashing!

I can send you the rough AutoCAD plans for the 5 speed or of you're bribe Tojo he might be able to finish them off for you!? :-D

The problem is that Tojo modified my drawings and added dimensions based on my trial and error. I have no existing skid plate that I have created for a 5 speed, just dimensions that SHOULD work. :?

So if we take that .dxf file that Tojo just posted to a place that does metal fabrication and has a waterjet cutter, then they should be able to do it? (minus the bends of course....)

By the way: thanks for these plans!

The Waterjet cutters I took mine to used AutoCAd drawings. It appears that there's no industry standard.

Hey Guys,

I can do up the manual transmission drawings on Monday when I'm back at the workstation doing 'work' ha ha. It appears that it's mostly the same except for the cutout. However, the manual trans version hasn't been made and tested yet, NXSKI and I both have autos, so you'll be the guinea pig. Most of the waterjet cutters that I've worked with can use DXF or DWG files. I'll look and see if I can convert to .ncf, probably can.

As for waterjet vs. laser cutting: http://www.teskolaser.com/waterjet_cutting.html
Waterjet can cut thicker material. But a laser cutter can cut up to 0.4" material depending on the strength of the machine.

On a side note, it would be cool to cut a Mitsumaple logo into the top of the plate. Also, if there is interest, we should get a bunch of skidplates made at once to bring the cost down.

Cheers,
Tojo

Well count me in as interested if we do some sort of group fabrication. I like the idea of a mitsu-maple or something on the plate - I'm sure more airflow holes to that rad, the better too. Keep me posted, cheers!

i work on a laser machine daily that is capable of cutting up to 1/2" steel.
while the mitsumaple sounds cool, i would rather just have a regular maple leaf.
please keep me posted.

Manual transmission L300 production drawing, one to one PDF and DXF file (in a ZIP folder) attached.

NOTE: this has not been tested, so it's highly recommended to make a cardboard template for proof of concept!
