Franz in line WVO filter

Has anyone tried one or more Franz filters (TP style) in-line for filtering veg onboard their rig?

Would like to add one before/after Ed's Vegmax2 but not sure of the flow rate and wouldn't want to lower the PSI the injection pump is pulling.

Franz site doesn't specify WVO and after talking with one of their reps, they did not know either.

No I have not tried one as an inline filter,I would think it would put tremendous strain on your IP when the system is cold.
Maybe if it was being pushed through by an auxiliary pump, but seems like it would be complicating things.

I have read about a vegger that used a frantz tp filter in his refinery to polish his finished WVO /SVO ect. to great results . This was a final step
before being put into the vehicle.
Save your in vehicle's fuel filters nicely.

There is no heater on it. Perhaps wrapping a cooling line around the outside or putting an electric element around could work. I'd stick to some of the traditional ways myself.

I use Frantz to filter my oil in the garage and it works great. BIG cost saver.

frantz filters are bypass filters, and are not a good filter for inline as you get very little flow. it will not work inline. if you have a recirculation pump you could use it as a bypass system to polish and recirculate the fuel in the tank but i would not use a toilet paper filter inline.

another alternative to Frantz bypass filter is using a Motorcraft filter housing with a TP roll.

I have a Walbro FRB5 (8-11psi) to push the cold WVO from the tank up to the front into the heated Vegmax2 and then onto the valves -> injection pump.

Would have been nice to get such an economical filter in line but you guys are right. The restrictive flow will put too much strain on the vane IP and possibly the walbro pump.

Reza. Do you mean the motorguard TP one?

I was thinking about Trabold (David and Felix are on them) but the Franz is too economical to pass up.

Between Franz and Motorguard. Any difference you experienced?

the walbro pump will not make that much of a difference trying to push thick oil through toilet paper.

motorguard maybe, i think there was one called motorcraft, could be mixed up, its been a while. just google the names.

I have not used either but did a lot of research. they are very comparable, for me price would be the deciding factor, and you can find them on ebay readily for good prices. i wouldnt bother unless it was for garage polishing or for what they are actually used for as an engine oil bypass filter. if you are going to use it in your garage, save your money and just make one out of a chunk of stainless tubing or PVC that can hold a bunch of rolls in series.
take everything with a grain of salt, this is all coming from a guy who settles his oil for a week, filters to 100 microns and pours it into his truck letting the truck fuel filter do the rest.


i made my own TP filter up from a hydraulic filter canister, works but is slow on WVO. heated WVO is almost a must to get anything done in a timely fashion.
