Experience with Rising Sun Imports & comments on a vehicle?

Post by khnatiuk »

Hello. I'm looking at the following Delica and was wondering a couple of things:
http://www.delica.ca/trader/l400_spaceg ... ceed_White

1.) If you were looking to purchase the above vehicle, what questions would you ask the dealer? For example, there are a number of items that state they've been rebuilt like: Engine, Turbo, Injection Pump, Transmission. Is this a positive, or signs that the vehicle was previously driven hard?

2.) What have been your experiences with Rising Sun Imports? Please PM me if you feel you'd like to keep your comments private.

Lastly, just want to say I appreciate the enthusiasm and support on the forums. I live out of province and a warranty, while appreciated, would unfortunately not do me any good. So I'm just trying to reduce my odds of buying an unintentional lemon as much as possible by researching these vehicles (and the dealers) in advance. It seems like the majority of dealers are very well reviewed and liked.

Thanks!

Kevin

Welcome,

If the warranty is not a consideration why not look into private sales? I would recommend CVI as a place to have an inspection done to make sure what you're buying is in good shape.

Happy hunting!

Many thanks for the Inspection recommendation. When I'm in B.C. I will most certainly take the opportunity to get it done. And I'm totally open to private sales too should I find the right model and options. Actually, I think I'd prefer a private sale as I would suspect that in many instances, the seller has replaced a few items. :)

Thanks for the reply,

Kevin

X2 on CVI for an inspection (pre-inspection prior to purchase :-D )

Private or Dealer I would have CVI do an inspection pre-purchase. I would think most dealers or private sellers would take their vehicle over to CVI for an inspection if you were paying the bill without you leaving Manitoba...just an idea...

x3 on the pre-purchase inspection

if you are forking over a dealer price, a pre-purchase inspection and a detailed list of what 'full service' has been done with the vehicle is good knowledge to have.

I would also have at least 1 or 2 other L400's that you are interested in, in case the first one doesn't pan out the way you wanted or isn't up to what you had initially thought. I can help you out in that regard and sent you a pm.

This is a good starting point to gauge what one L400 is worth compared to another with regards to it's mechanically condition: http://www.delica.ca/forum/new-to-l400- ... -8009.html

This forum is foremost a community of members so don't be afraid to ask direct or blunt questions irregardless of who is selling the rig be it private or dealer. Good luck :M

Dude, pretty sure Spatric isonly here to SPAM!!!! we need an admin to get rid of that guy.

But Times-4 on the inspection. Highly recommend. I am taking delivery of my L400 soon after I have some checks and a tuneup performed. I don't want unknown issues cropping up during my return drive over the many mountain passes back to Calgary. Well worth the small cost that way you know what you have.

You are correct. This is a common occurrence. The user has been banned and the post removed. 8-)

I bought out of province from Rising Sun Imports, and I am very happy with them and my van. Every Delica has a different history, but at the age of import, some things should certainly be replaced. All that stuff that I was told had been replaced, was; I had this confirmed independently, and the van is working virtually like new. Being from out of province, Steven threw in a warranty on engine and drive train that is third party, so it applies where ever I am in the country.

They picked me up at the airport, spent the better part of the day with me, answered all off my questions, drove me around to complete transportation paperwork, gave me spare parts for my next few oil and brake changes. Steven even checked up on me by email and text to make sure everything was okay on my winter drive across the country. An appraiser, for insurance purposes here in Ontario, valued the van for $2000 more than the purchase price. I have driven almost 10,000 km with zero issues, and no warning signs.

I had a great experience, and would use their company again without hesitation. I suspect that you might get the same service if nothing has changed in the last 2 months. Best of luck, and consider Rising Sun. My experience is that Steven and son, David are straight shooters.
