L400(1996) looking for tire and wheel info

Post by Big-Bird »

I am picking up an L400 in late January 2012 in the Vancouver area and it will need tires before I attempt the drive through Roger's Pass to get it home. I can't verify the dimensions of the tires and aftermarket wheels currently attached, pics don't show that detail. Does anyone know what size the largest tire is that I can stuff under a stock height L400 using stock off set 15x7 rims.

Word has it that 235x75x15 is the stock tire size but I would like to mount 30's....maybe even 31's even of they rub a little.
Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!

you can mount 31x10.5x15, the front wheel will rub while making full turn. you can remove the front mudflap and bang with a hammer (behind the mudflap) on the metal plate and notch the front bumper from inside (where the wheel will touch). then it will be fine or go with 30.5x9.5 or 235/75/15.

30x9.5x15 on the stock wheel. You'll rub a little but at full lock if the front end is sagging (adjust tbars to fix that)

Forget 31x10.5x15's unless you crank the torsion bars or install a lift.

Is that also on turning? I saw the pics you posted a while back to mod wheel wells but it looks like does not nessasarily sort the turning issue?

(talking 30 x 9.5 on stock L400)
