That's kind of my point - Water here is good and free yet people throw money away buying it - more money for a liter of water than for a liter of fuel and at the same time whinge about the cost at the pumps. Fuel is a better deal...foxycanuck wrote:Yeah but Konadog, bottled water is an incredible scam.

Re: Cost of diesel... WTF?!
Somewhere there is a pencil pusher that is using an algorithm to set the price of fuel. What people are willing to pay, plotted against consumption. You really think it has to do with supply? I really have my doubts. What cracks me up is that the telecom guys (I am not defending them) get their knuckles rapped for pricing collusion but somehow the energy companies get a free pass.

Re: Cost of diesel... WTF?!
Just to add to the conspiracy, I spent an hour driving around Leduc looking for diesel. Three stations completely empty (for over a week) and then I thought I would check the Petro Canada and sure enough they have diesel. I asked the attendant when the rest of the city will be getting diesel back to normal again because of the refinery shortage and she looked at me like I was crazy. "What diesel shortage?" was her reply. Maybe I am too into the conspiracy right now but isn't Petro Canada government owned?

Re: Cost of diesel... WTF?!
Petro-canada is owned by Suncor...A fire at a hydrogen plant in Saskatchewan has stopped production of diesel at the Suncor refinery, which is a major supplier out here.
The diesel refined isn't designated for Petro-Canada stations only, it's distributed where ever, but could be hoarded for Petro stations only to satisfy financial demands..
Dunno lol..

I've been watching way too many conspiracy shows on TV. I think that is my biggest problem

Re: Cost of diesel... WTF?!
I've noticed with stations that don't sell a lot of diesel, the supply and cost can be out of whack with the rest of the world.
There's a Shell in Okotoks that sells diesel, but not a lot of it. When everyone else's price shot up, theirs stayed the same. When the prices came back down, theirs stayed the same... I think it had more to do with when they needed to replenish supply...
Maybe the Petro can you found was the same... just hadn't sold their stock, so they didn't know there was a shortage.

Re: Cost of diesel... WTF?!
So this is just what i've heard out here, but they are beginning to produce diesel again.
I'm curious to see if diesel prices will drop, or if it's going to be milked over winter...most likely the latter. Gas has just dropped to under a dollar, when will we see 0.95/l diesel again lol??

Re: Cost of diesel... WTF?!
Try gassing up an airplane some time.
Last time I gassed up my favourite Cherokee http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/C-FKKF.html at Langley 100LL was $1.83 a litre. When I did my long cross-country flight to Powell River I gassed up before I flew back. How about $2.23 a litre? If you brim both tanks it's over 200 litres, BTW. Apparently there are only two refineries in North America that still make airplane gasoline. Since it contains lead, it must be specially handled. A handful of airplane engines can legally run on car gas, but require special procedures.
One company http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thielert tried making diesel engines for airplanes. They run on Jet A, which is much the same stuff as diesel or kerosene. While it's not that much cheaper, it's much more readily available. They managed to go bankrupt in the process. That takes talent...

Re: Cost of diesel... WTF?!
The other day the price of reg. gas in Kamloops was $1.09 /L. I filled up the deli at $1.37/L. Felt like I was being bent over and taking it up the tail pipe, when the guy filling up his car next to me said "hey nice van , but sucks to be filling it up today hey!"
Yes , it is what it is unfortunatly.
