Canter Guts Quad Cab
Man I want one of these so bad. Bigger than the truck I have...but not too big to be crazy. 4WD, 4M40 engine, Quad Cab, Drop side tray. Sweeeet. 0% chance I can talk the wife into it....

I like them too, I drove a Fuso moving truck once and it was fun to drive and was sooo good on fuel, but it was pretty new

Re: Canter Guts Quad Cab
I'll be looking to buy a truck like this in a year or 2 probably! Does anyone have tested numbers for fuel efficiency on them?

Re: Canter Guts Quad Cab
ohhhh ya those rigs are sweet im not 100% sure on numbers for fuel but theres a couple here on saltspring that i have seen a mitsu canter flatbed, same deal as the one up top but 2wd diesel and its a 1991 not bad for having duallys and a 4cyl.
i have been looking at this one on usedvic http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified- ... r_15709732
toyota has the hiace flatbed aswell there not bad either but comparable differences, we have one kicken round salty aswell and i have talked to both owners they love them but they remarked on the height and 4wd being essential in tight places. the mitsu guy has gone and had to buy two windshields so far due to branches and debris and the windshields angle of approach.
cheers

If they had a covered box or canopy I'd be sold. Kind of like the cute little firetrucks. The prices are pretty steep on those though!

I got a copy of the Mitsubishi safety testing video right here. Cab forward looks plenty safe.Pajero wrote:I wonder how safe the cab over design is though?? I know the L300 is like this but it looks like there is even less in front of you

Re: Canter Guts Quad Cab
I brought a 91 Canter 2.0 (two ton with 3.6l diesel) to Manitoba from the coast in Aug of 09. It was only 2 wheel drive with dual wheels and dump box. I towed a u-haul car trailer with my lwb l400 on it. My mileage was as low as 18mpg in the mountains, and as high as 26mpg on the flats. Overall, from Abbottsford to Dauphin MB I averaged 22.4mpg. Most of the time I was doing between 100-110kph. The 3.6l was also non-turbo, but seemed to have lots enough power. It could do 125kph towing the l400 with out problem. It was also only a single cab configuration. A couple of things to be aware of is that some have 15.5" tires that are not available here (mine had 17.5"), and 24V is quite common on these trucks. (not a real problem, but beware when plugging stuff into the cigarette lighter)

Re: Canter Guts Quad Cab
Yeah those jdm trucks have some odd tire/wheel configurations alright. My Liteace truck came with 12.5" rear rims that were almost equally as wide as in diameter like they tried to make duallies in a single tire. Got rid of those quick. Of course literally days after tossing those rims off at the dump I found the gnarliest 12.5" ATV tires with mud paddles so big they could spank you at Princess Auto.Manitoba deli wrote:I brought a 91 Canter 2.0 (two ton with 3.6l diesel) to Manitoba from the coast in Aug of 09. canters and fuso's are delicious platforms for all sorts of uses. Delicat is secretly eyeing them.

They seem to average 18L/100km, might be less for the 2wd version?nxski wrote:I'll be looking to buy a truck like this in a year or 2 probably! Does anyone have tested numbers for fuel efficiency on them?

Not so secret anymore... I recall posting here about the Earthcruiser. Drool!jfarsang wrote:canters and fuso's are delicious platforms for all sorts of uses. Delicat is secretly eyeing them.
I just haven't taken the time to learn enough about all the configurations, (4wd, short/med/long wheel base, engine for specific year... The list goes on). I know I'd go for a short wheel base 4wd but every time I start "studying" them more in details my wife spanks me behind the head!
Another issue I'd have with this truck is that it wouldn't fit into Jay's shop!
