Electric Closure on Sliding Door

Post by CREGAN »

My door has started to make a weird clicking noise when the electrics usually pull it in and seal it. Anyone else have this issue? I am wondering if the contact switch is just in need of some lube. It seems a bit sticky. If so what should I use?

Sorry to hear about all your problems.Seen the picture when you bought your van,you looked so happy !!I would have thought amazing auto would have stood behind this lemon.

Your auto close function is messing up,you can take door panel off and dis-connect it.Soon your door won't open.Should act on this quick.

PM me if you need anymore info.

Not sure what NumbNuts McMartyBasher's problem is; I'm sure the moderators will deal with it shortly.

Anyways, my sliding door sometimes makes a rapid "rat-tat-tat-tat-tat" noise when I close it. Short answer is that I believe it is normal under the circumstances:

Long answer: from what I can tell, there is a little closing cam which rotates over electrically to clamp the door shut. I find that if I close the door very gently, it does its job normally.

If I shut the door very firmly, I think the force of doing so mechanically places the cam into its correct position without the need for it to engage, so it does nothing.

But if I close it moderately firmly, there is enough force to close the door but not to set the cam in the closed position. So what I think we hear is a spring clutch which allows the cam to rotate into position without actually moving the door (since it is already shut).

Clear as mud?

Tony.

When I close the door firmly it only makes a brief noise, no clicking but engaging into place like you said. When I close it softly it makes that clicking noise, but it does eventually pull it in. It never used to do this until the last couple days. I have always closed it softly because I let the electrics just pull it in. I get really annoyed when my wife or someone slams the door like it is on a Ford Aerostar Sport ( 8-) djjack) I am just wondering if the contact points could use a cleaning and lubing up the contact plate on the actual door. Do you think this would help? Oh well all I can do is try.

About the Lemon comments - Sadly I am starting to feel that my used vehicle is needing a bit more work than most. And we all know a bit more work costs a lot of dollars. I went into this with the complete understanding that it is a used vehicle, and I don't know how used. It would require some maintenance, although I had the impression a lot would be done upon arrival. I am still waiting for a new TPS (7 weeks tomorrow), I have a power steering leak ( I think the PS pump is leaking or has a leaky seal) that is only getting worse, and my ABS light has been on since the first week I got it. These are the current ones to go with a grocery list that I have already fixed. So It has not been easy on me and my family to have to be constantly repairing a vehicle that i have gone through so much pursuading to my wife to make her think it would be "The vehicle for us". It is getting there now but I am already $4500 over the price when I bought it. Makes me a bit sad, but soon it will be the vehicle I hoped, if I can afford to get things fixed.

Thats not fair, all he said was "I would have thought amazing auto would have stood behind this lemon". CREGAN's van is too sexy to be a lemon lol but it has had MANY issues and it sure doesn't sound like the support from Mardy has been all that amazing. He might be a nice guy but his business is so disorganized the customer service is a joke. My experience is like CREGANs...the guy is either unreachable/unresponsive or just makes empty promises. I haven't received a response to my emails to Mardy going on 3 weeks. I don't have the time or patience for that...especially when I have seen him post on Delica.ca in the meantime so its not like his computer isn't working. I guess I will buy my parts and supplies from someone else who at least makes an effort.

Hope your TPS shows up soon. It's been 7 months since Mardy promised he would send me a cheque to cover the expense of shipping him a box of parts he forgot he had stashed in the spare tire area of my L400...Canada Post is soooooo slow! 8-)

The issue is the contacts and they can be bought new ex Japan. A simple 5 min self install is all that it takes.

TPS in stock as well and they are getting harder to source in Japan due to the virtual non existence of the series 1 Spacegear diesel.

http://www.delicashop.com/p/44/TPS.html

I will find a pic of the sliding door sensor and get a current price as well. Rarley fail bit I guess with a lot of use or abuse then anything is possible. Often in Japan these cars have lower mileage vs running hours as well.

Fair comment; if this is the case with a string of van issues, then my bad.

I saw a user with only 3 postings suddenly warning that OP'd have to take the door apart or else; seemed a bit harsh.

I thought it was a case of Kei King redux and got some exercise by jumping to conclusions! :o

There is more than dirty/faulty contacts in the locking mechanism. In fact there is a bunch of moving mechanical parts as well as sensors and switches and of course those mechanical moving parts require lubrication.
To summarize what I have learned from 5 long threads on delicaclub.ru:
- if the problem described by CREGAN is low temperature related most likely it is caused by lack of lube ot its degradation;
- otherwise it is the result of electrical parts malfunction and/or broken/worn mechanical components.
It is beyond my abilities to translate and post all pictures, diagrams and tables as wel as troubleshooting procedure from the Russian workshop manual but you can refer to the English manual, section 42-48 'BODY - Slide Door' as a start. :M

Two discussions going on at once? Mods may merge the two topics.

Craig
My sister's L400 Chamonix had the same problem, my two SWB L400's had the same problem and the last handful of L400's I've looked over had the same problem. 'had' being past tense.

All were resolved with *very* light sanding of the contacts and lubrication w/ permatex die electric grease.

All had the problem surface late fall when the weather got colder and more humid.

I didn't consider any of them 'lemons'.

A lemon is a vehicle that is sour through and through down to the bare metal.

Some L400's may have more issues than others but it doesn't make it a lemon.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mardy. I guess I wasn't thinking. I thought the email I sent you on March 23, 2011 that included the shipping cost along with the package tracking information and my address, or alternatively the package itself which would have had the postage marked right on it might have been all you needed. Its good to know that apparently it's been my fault all along. 8-) :M

Unfortunately I still have not received any reply from you regarding my recent parts requests. Neither my work or home email has any reply. I checked the spam folders as well just in case, nothing there. ??? I am still interested in the parts if you would still like to do business, please just respond to one of my emails and we can rock and roll.
