Newbie with questions
Hello. newbie here. Kinda stumbled across a 92 V44 LWB Exceed auto...... know very little about the Pajero but in the short time I have had it I have come to realize it is an outstanding vehicle. I have lots of questions I would like to post but will start with just a few. I need a headlight assemble, I know the Pajero was not imported into the US, are parts from the Montero interchangeable? Secondly, is there anything I should know before I take it thru aircare? Thanks in advance, hope you will bear with me as I stumble thru the learning process...

Re: Newbie with questions
It is identical to a Montero with a 3.5L V6. The engine size is important for driveline components as some are beefier with the 3.5L V6 and the 2.8L ITD.
As for head lights I would imagine they are drop in replacements but I am not sure as I have a SWB with the 9" round headlights. If you want to go that route, i know you can get conversion kits.
Aircare won't be a problem, you'll pass for sure.

Re: Newbie with questions
hey pajerry, thanks for the comeback, will now go ahead and get a Montero headlight assembly thru ebay or car-part.com. The tranny fluid is black, no sign of red at all, hoping just needs servicing , transmission seems to operate ok. That and fix a few oil leaks I should be good to go.....

Re: Newbie with questions
Sorry, I just saw you have a 92. Is that the 2nd generation body style? 2.5L diesel is the same chassis as the 3.0L gasser, not 3.5L.

Re: Newbie with questions
hey man i have the Same whip. The head lights will just drop in, just did mine actually. Side markers also fit perfectly from the Montero. As long as its between the years 91-97. not sure if the 98-99 model will fit they changed the front fenders those years. If you have any questions drop me a message, or im sure anyone on here will be able to help ya as well.

Re: Newbie with questions
Thanks for the replies, so this is what I have learned so far, the 92 is classified as a Mk 2, the body style was the same from 1991 to 1997 ( I think that is right) Montero parts from the US are usable for the most part, and the forum from the UK......POCUK seems to be the best source of info. So how am I doing so far??????

You're getting the hang of it.mitsubill wrote:Thanks for the replies, so this is what I have learned so far, the 92 is classified as a Mk 2, the body style was the same from 1991 to 1997 ( I think that is right) Montero parts from the US are usable for the most part, and the forum from the UK......POCUK seems to be the best source of info. The biggest difference is going to be the dashboard and in the engine bay, for obvious reasons. The diesel engine was not sold on this continent, but the rest of the body should be good for replacements.
Same for things IN the dash (gauges, lights, switches), but obviously the dash is not the same. Door window switches should fit either side (I'm thinking the driver's multi-window switch).
As for trawling for information on your own, you're doing pretty good. The UK site has been around much longer and so is more mature in that respect; and the Aussies seem to favour the Delica, but there are some grassy-cats down there too, though.
And finally, welcome to the group!

Re: Newbie with questions
If it is the 2.5L change the Timing BELTS, tensioners, water pump, front engine seals, v-belts, rad hoses, heater hoses, and replace or rebuild the radiator. Do this yesterday and repeat in 90,000km.
Welcome

Re: Newbie with questions
Thanks for the welcome and the advice, realize that overheating is the biggest concern with the 2.5 so am watching that closely and will be changing belts/hoses shortly. Do Pajeros rate their own meets or do we just tag along with the Delicas? I see the pajero.ca site does not get much traffic so am assuming most just hang out here?? One other thing, love the adjustable shocks but with 170 km think they may be a little tired, any way to replace them without spending $700. plus postage out of the UK???

Re: Newbie with questions
The adjustables are nice, but unless you're doing a lot of transitioning from one terrain to another, I don't think the cost is worth it. I'm thinking of re-purposing the lights to associate with driving/fog/backup lamps I've yet to install. Or something along that lines.mitsubill wrote:Thanks for the welcome and the advice, realize that overheating is the biggest concern with the 2.5 so am watching that closely and will be changing belts/hoses shortly. The Ranchero shock line seems to be popular on this forum, both the hydraulic and the gas. I forget which is better for each condition, but the two camps are off-road and highway.

Re: Newbie with questions
Change the timing belts yesterday if you do not know when they were last serviced and what parts used.
Diesel are interference motors so if the belt skips or fails (there are two) it will usually total the motor.
Add a Pyro RichD sells a nice kit. Great motor if treated nicely....

Thats the username of the guy to get in touch with. He has put together pyro kits with everything you need to get going including EGR blanking plates tapped for the pyro probe.
I installed the kit without any issues, works great and the price was right.
