Mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Post by The Chief »

Hi, I've just installed a mechanical oil pressure guage in my L300. It wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be but with a bit of cursing and some fiddling I got it sorted. I replaced the tilt guage with the oil guage as I had no other place to put it, hence the fiddling about.

Now I have real time pressure I'm a bit concerned about the initial flash up pressure. It takes about 8-10 seconds to read any pressure then proceeds to about 85psi. After a couple of minutes at idle I start off fairly slowly and the highest I've seen it is 95+ before it warms and settles down to anything between 40 - 65psi at average RPM to maintain 60 - 80kph. At idle when warm it hangs just under 30psi.

These numbers are based on a couple of factors; I'm using Rotella T triple protection 15w-40 and a Fram oil filter, and the average temperature in the morning lately has been about 12 degrees. (185,000 kms).

Do these numbers sound about right?

Thanks very much.

Sorry, I thought this was the technical section. I guess my point regarding oil pressure is, I think mine is a bit high during flash up. Since I'm new to the 2.5 turbo diesel engine, I figured someone out there would have installed a gauge and be able to comment on pressures. So, in a nut shell, is my oil pressure too high? Thyanks very much.
