Ontario, Muskoka June 18th meet and adventure

I have had my van for almost two years and in that time I have seen other Delica's but only from a distance so it was amazing to meet five other drivers and see inside their vehicles. In our town we have two L300s but we only met yesterday. Subabus and I have waved in passing but have never met in person. Well yesterday at the Muskoka meet that all changed. We were the first ones to the parking lot so we had a chance to chat and share stories of our beloved vans. She showed me the cool owners manual that came with her Delica (which I secretly coveted) and we used it to figure out what the latch thingy was on the back doors of our vans. We also discussed how to start our vans and what some of the buttons were for.

Then in pulled delicioso! in a cool looking white L400, wow was his van packed, I can see why a L400 makes sense for families as it is practical and way way cooler then my old Mercury Villager. Next up was gtr and his tough looking Pajaro complete with mud splatters. Years ago I had a 89 Izuzu Trooper which I traded in for a mini van (sigh) so I love the look of the Pajaro. After that busrida arrived in his white L400 and soon after djcarno arrived in his black and silver L400.

Earlier that day I wondered if I might be the only one sitting in the parking lot but instead we had a real gathering of Mitsubishi enthusiasts. We spent a fun hour or so chatting, swapping stories, eating lunch, showing off our vans to each other and to a few curious visitors (including one women whose father owned a L300 in Japan).

Then it was time for our tour of some backroads in Muskoka. I had the honour of being the lead vehicle, it was an amazing experience being at the head of a string of Delicas and a Pajaro. Bracebridge must have been wondering what was going on as we paraded out of town. I loved it!!!

20 minutes of Highway driving brought us to the start of the gravel, logging roads that we traveled on for the nest 2-3 hours. I had not been on those particular roads so it was an adventure for me. I made one wrong turn which turned out to be serendipitous as we found a mud hole/gravel pit and a nice picnic area by a lake. The mud hole was like a mud puddle to little kids, most everyone took a turn driving through it or just around it. The picnic site was also nice and we stayed there for a while letting the little children play in the water and sand. The big kids ate watermelon (thanks to djcarno@hotmail.com) and had a fun friendly time chatting and getting to know each other.

i think this was a historic event, prolly the 1st large gathering of delicas in s. ontario! if we can do this at least once a year, that'd be awesome! a fall colours ride would be amazing too.
