Air Care fuel consumption calculation

Post by glenn »

I just came back from easily passing the AirCare test - Do any of us fail this?

My question is this, does anyone know anything about the fuel consumption calculation? How do they measure this, and is there any reliability in the figure they provide (11.6 L/km for me). I should have asked the dude there, but didn't look at the results until I got home - aside from the fact I passed.

Thanks, glenn

Actually... took my L300 in yesterday and it failed aircare with an opacity number of ~43 (30 is a pass).

I was quite shocked, considering I came off of 30 minutes on the highway. Any suggestions?

I'm guessing that this means a CVI Delica tune. Means I should probably, get a few things extra things done while it's in the shop... EGR block, fuel filter, random fluids, (others?). *Sigh*... I really was hoping to avoid spending the money. :S

Fuel consumption value is a wild card guess. You can ignore it.

Too much smoke - egr block , fresh air filter and run a can of seafoam through the IP and blast it out on the highway. Then you'll be good

I doubt I have the facility/tools to do an EGR block and clean myself (I'm a apartment dwelling vancouver snob, very much against my 'natural state of existence'.... grrrrr)

The air filter is 1 month old... but this seafoam sounds interesting. All you do is add it to the fuel tank and viola? :S

I had never done any mechanical work before and the egr was the first thing I tackled. It took me about an hour and all you need is a rachet and about $16 for the plates. Also as the engine is I side the vehicle, no one has to know you're working on it

Back to aircare, blanking my egr improved my co2 emission by a significant amount

Freestyler, come to CVI day tomorrow (or today ~ on the 18th, June) and there will be many people to help you, talk with you.

Thanks for the note: I'm hoping to make it out, but it's going to be past 3pm. Hopefully you/others will still be Delica'ing it up.

Well, what I can say, the Seafoam has made a difference on idling and under load on the highway. Not much mind you... but enough to make a mention of it here.
