has anyone done a 16g turbo upgrade?

Hi,

I am new to the club and am excited to be a delica owner. The first thing I wanted to know was if any one has done a 16g turbo install into one of their machines? and if so was there a lot of mods that needed to happen? I have been looking for any post on this and haven't been able to find anything. Any advice or pictures would be very much appreciated. Iam driving a 92 delica exceed.

Just for fun any one ever seen one of these with a twin turbo set up? thanks in advance!

You can have a 15G compressor wheel put into your stock turbo, a 16G might be getting to the limits of what you'ld want to machine the housing out to in order to achieve the required profile. On top of that the shaft would need to be sleeved in order to fit the 16G wheel, one more possible failure point. I stuck with the 15G for those reasons. The 16G wheels only came in TDO5 turbos while the 4D56 and 4M40 come with a TDO4, thats why the shaft would need to be sleeved since the TDO4 shaft is much smaller. To put a TDO5 in would require an adaptor plate at minimum, if not an entirely new manifold. If you were to increase boost enough to warrant a TDO5 swap then you would want a good sized intercooler(IC) or water/meth injection at minimum to cool the intake charge, I upgraded my turbo and cranked the boost and the increased heat transfer through the stock IC was enough to melt the stock fan underneath the Pajeros' IC, so i put in a larger frontmount IC.

Thank you for the reply I appreciate all the info. Did you notice alot of diffrence in the power by going with a 15G?
So just to clarify if I put in a TD05 16G turbo this would be to much boost for the 4D56 even if I installed a large Intercooler and a larger air intake ( perhaps a snorkle ) Please forgive me if I ask a lot of dumb questions Iam new to diesels and very new to the awesome world of owning a delica. I am also interested in a little more power out of my smoker.. Is i possible to just turn up the boost, another 15-30hp would be lovely! (91 exceed 2.5)
