Hello Delica fans!

Post by Vangruver »

Hi Delica fans!

Complete newbie with bewbies towards Delica's, but I do appreciate them fully.

I'm a volkswagen guy at heart and a Diesel head with a 1990 Turbo Diesel Jetta.

I've been thinking about getting a diesel truck to do my hauling and ruff and tuff stuff for when I decide to park my car. More details of which can be found here > http://jettajunkie.com/vw-jetta/showthr ... unkie-Fans.

Then I thought about what the JDM market had in regards to their turbo diesels and remembered that Mitsu's have been producing diesels for years, and also remembered that the delica is a fantastic buy!

I'd be using the delica for the utilitarian purposes of when i park my Jetta over the winter, and work on it a bit more, and who knows? I might even use this car as a daily [if the modification bug doesn't kick in like it's doing with my VW passions]

Using it for snowboarding in the winters and whatever else in the summers.

So, I ask all you experts.....

What year and model is the best, and what should I look to spend? If there isn't a thread on those details already ?!

THANKS

Hey Vangruver

Welcome to the awesome world of RHD diesel!

You'll find on this site Hard core Mitsu fans that will brag about Mitsu day-in day-out! Trust me they have all the reasons to do so!

Basically you have 4 choice in the Mitsu family:

Awesome minivans, the L300 and the L400.
SUV's Pajero
Pickup: Strada (harder to find)

The L400 come in various model long, short, high, low, etc... A very versatile truck that as all the Minivan advantage, walk trought, swivel seats, space etc...

The L300 (haven't drove) is more rugged (early gen of Delica) Still minivan/truck doesn't have the walk trought because of engine position.

I'd personally go hands down on L400 because it's newer technologies. It's basically a major overhaul between L300 and L400. The big differences are: engine position, engine power: 35% more, Walk trought, the look itself and many more but these are main ones.

Pajero is a nice SUV with the L400 engine, 2/5/7 seaters

The strada, fellow members might have more knowledge

(please forgive of mentionning those names)

Toyota has a good product but you have to be aware that the 2.4L had a major failure with the head, craking in High rev, High temp. Because BC is reknowed for its hills i'd avoid those engine. A lot of folks would get the 3L head on the 2.4L and the problem was solved.

A fellow member brought in a Mazda Bongo Friendee:
http://www.delica.ca/forum/william-s-bo ... 10652.html

It looks like a very interesting vehicule for sure but I think it will be a first in Candian Soil.

The advantage to get a Mitsu is the community: It's bloody enormous. There's plenty of very good mechanics in the lower mainland and on the Island aswell! Parts are not the hard to find and dealer are very good on shipping (I live in Ottawa) There's a lot of parts that are crossed reference to Mitsu Montero 91-99 (us auto parts)

Two of our very experienced members ride Nissan Safari and these trucks are Tanks! It could be an option.

WVO kits are more and more popular in BC and there's a lot of info if you're interested

Hope this enlights you!

Cheers Mate

Thanks for the advice.

To me the essential purpose of getting a Delica is to satisfy the lack of space that my jetta has, also to satisfy my desire for a diesel truck/van as well.

A few questions I have about the engine in particular though.

the injection system, is it an indirect injection system with pre-cups? or is it a direct injection system?

rather. lets just put it this way. is there detailed information online about the engine? for research purposes as well.

I had a good look at that section and it does tell me information, but not really detailed stuff.

i'd download the owners manual, but then again it's in german. :(

i'll have to keep poking around some more.
