Seat and Floor covers

Post by foxycanuck »

I just got a '95 L400. The only thing not top shape about it is the seats... that velvety microfibre is a bit frayed.

I'd like to cover the seats. Any recommendations for either re-upholstering or preferably seat covers for the chairs? I know I can make the standard cheapys from CT work, but I'd like something that can handle the arms and headrests as well. It's going to be used for a lot of vehicle shuttles for whitewater paddling, so something that can handle getting wet would be nice too.

Similarly, the floor is in decent shape, but I'd like to cover it with something that will handle some muck and water. For the floor I'm debating either just laying some indoor/outdoor carpet over, or going a little more heavy duty and taking those interlocking rubber tiles (they sell them for kids playrooms and for garages) and cutting them up to fit the inside. Something that I can remove and hose down from time to time and will protect the carpet a bit.

Anyone done either of these? Any recommendations?

I'm actually in the same boat with my L300. The front seats, especially the driver's seat, is pretty worn out. The stock floor mats in the front have pretty much had the biscuit as well

Google brings up a few upholstery places in Calgary but I haven't called any yet.

As for the floor, I was going to try picking up a couple rubber backed door mats (the black industrial looking ones) and use the old mats as a template and cut them to shape. I think they are like 7 dollars each at Home Depot. Might not work but for 7 bucks it doesn't hurt to try. The L400 is more "normal" but the L300 has teeny little mats so I don't think I'll get away with off the shelf from CT.

OP, I'm in the same situation with my L400 too. Two kids and a dog dirty up the interior in a hurry. (I think I can almost make another small dog wth the amount of Black Lab hair on and around my seats).

But have a look around for a set of Delica mats; I had a set in mine when it came from Japan and they cover the whole interior including fitting the floor around the seats perfectly. Mardy or the like might be able to order in a set for you. Saves me a lot of time cleaning the floors; now I just need to get the seats sorted.

Don't know what they'd cost but they do exist.

They ship to Canada and they give a phone# to call; might be worth a try.
