This thread wouldn't by any chance be prompted by your Safari looking like it's a bit taller than it was a few months ago, now would it?...

Considering how long it takes to get the parts for your lift and your current situation, I bet "soon" is going to be stretched quite a bit :-D :-D

Now for $1 can anyone guess where this was. Hint #1 is that it is in the Southern Vancouver Island area.

Winner! Great now I owe you a loonie! :)

Looking at some of the other shots here I think my attempt was really lame. But I think I'll hold off and not freak out Mr. Phree the likely next owner...we'll see what a lifted L400 has for flex.

Is it just me or does the stock 300 seem to flex more than the 400!? :?

On the rear, in stock form they are very close. Within 1" travel at the wheel.

With a 2" lift (this is my own observations) the L400 flexes about 3 inches more on full articulation at the wheel because of the coil springs compared to the leaf springs on the L300.

But .. it depends on the condition of the L300 leaf packs and the L400 coils.

Going through many flavours of L300/L400's, there isn't a difference that stands out to me.

The front articulation, which isn't the best to begin with, is the same for both unless you start modifying the A-arms.

The biggest difference between the two is not side to side articulation but front to rear wheelbase and the approach/departure angles. Those are the things that help or hinder one to another while offroading.

And there is no one that is the best. They both offer different better/worse traits for offroading.

That last picture above is an L400 with a 2" lift and 31" tires. You can see that with a 2" lift, the only suspension components that are changed are the longer rear coils/spacers and front torsion bars/spacers. When you go past 3" inches of suspension lift, then consideration to an adjustable rear panhard bar and front subframe spacers may be required. The JAOS and Taiwan suspension lift kits that you see on many L400's overseas are very simple up to 2 inches. That's the magic number. The same goes with many other vehicles, Nissan Patrol/Safari ,Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota pickup/4Runner, Mitsubishi Pajero/L400/L300, etc... all of these vehicles do well with a 2" suspension lift. Anything over that involves more parts. :M

Has anyone ever seen an L300 converted to solid FA? I would have figured that to be a big project in the past, but after seeing Super Exceed's stretch job I've re-evaluated my definition of "big project"

Noel's famous L300 almost sounds like an urban legend! I heard of it many times over the years but never saw it nor saw pictures of it... 8-)

Make sure you know which side you want your front driveshaft on before you start....I made the mistake of picking the stock side to my truck and ended up having to pay $$$ for a odd ball transfer case to make it work with my engine swap.

Let me know when your home, I have a engine hoist in the car.
