Just rolled back from Joshua Tree and San Diego.

4x4 trips to Mexico, to the ski hill, or to the local grocery store...

Just rolled back from Joshua Tree and San Diego.

Post by thedjjack »

On Christmas day we drove down to Joshua Tree....had gusting 50 mph winds non stop for a few days at freezing temperatures....so we went to the beach!

Delica ran good....man my speedometer is out randomly! Thought the clutch was slipping but just the speedo out!

Furnace ran great...stayed warm, no condensation on the windows in the morning..20lbs bottle that was half full is still got lots of fuel. Clean and simple! Happy.

Slide out was great no issues.

Roof has got to get cut off next! lots of ideas..I just need to get the welder and grinder out.

Delica getting hit with 50+mph winds: (did much better then neighbors tent!)

I'd love to get down to that area and the Salton Sea, ever since I watched that movie about the kid that hiked up to Alaska only to die in the bus in the middle of nowhere (can't remember the name). Anyway, the California bit looked really interesting. How cold does it get at night?

So I have to ask about the one image in the accompanying gallery: your female companion (don't know if it's wife or girlfriend nor her name, sorry), is she posing at the front of the van or did you catch her mid-stretch? Either way, it's looks like a bit of an advertisement for "Delica - the outdoor-camper-get-away-into-the-back-country vehicle. Find one now at your local importer." :-D

Its the wife....we were just having fun.

"Into the Wild" we drove down to the Salton Sea last year (had a 1982 toyota 4x4 at the time).

Checked out Salvation Mountain and "Slab City". Both worth the trip.

First day was high near 15 and nights under freezing (water left out over night froze good).

After the cold front came in never ending winds and near freezing.

Mostly we went I5 to make time....is that possible in a L300 (5 speed)?

No real 4x4'ing other then a few street fords in the the flooding!

No climbing...we planned on some bouldering...but mostly did little hikes.

Salton Sea is an interesting place!

Enjoyed San Diego...Stayed at Camperland right in town by the beach. Hot Tub.

Cheers
