Hi,
I am a new Delica owner and new to this site. I have owned my l400 for just over a week now and I have a few questions I hope someone can help to answer.
At the rear left hand side interior there is a compartment that is empty on my vehicle. It has a velcro strap that looks like it held something boxy. What is supposed to be in there? The compartment on the opposite side has a jack and tools.
Does anyone use a diesel additive? I always used an additive to prevent fuel pump wear in my 84 Mercedes 300d because of advice that the modern diesel would wreck it. Any thoughts? Would it hurt?
What is normal for the temperature gauge in a delica like mine? My needle is just under half way up when it is warmed up in this mild weather.
Has anyone installed a transmission cooler? I plan to put a hitch on a tow a little utility trailer. Is this an easy operation? Will an off the shelf cooler work?
How about an oil cooler? I plan to travel to the BC interior in the summer. Anyone have any feedback if this is a good idea?
thanks in advance for any comments

Re: New owner.....many questions.
The compartment on the left side had a warning triangle when the vehicle was new.
The additive we (and most injection shops recommend) is Stanadyne conditioner/lubricant.
Temp gauge should be around midway. Good preventative measure to replace antifreeze / rad hoses / thermostat / water pump / radiator and coolant expansion bottle when imported from Japan to ensure correct operation of the cooling system.
Transmission and engine oil coolers can be added fairly easy just depends how big a cooler you want to add. May be good to add an additional transmission cooler if you are planning on towing a lot.
Thanks, Glen

if you have an l400 the van already comes with a trans cooler and oil cooler...... the trans cooler is attached to the bottom of your rad the coolant cools the fluid and the oil cooler is just behind the drivers side headlight

Thanks for the responses and advice. Cheers!
If you know of a good place to purchase the Stanadyne additive I would be glad to hear it too.
thanks again.

What are the common places that would carry such product?...i'm in Ontario. Or would I have to order it from BC?ccautos wrote:The additive we (and most injection shops recommend) is Stanadyne conditioner/lubricant.

Googled 'Stanadyne dealer locator' and came up with this Link
There's a dealer in London ON. AceRB, please update your profile to show your location so others can give you location specific information.

That's where I keep my fuel conditioner.AceRB wrote:At the rear left hand side interior there is a compartment that is empty on my vehicle. It has a velcro strap that looks like it held something boxy. What is supposed to be in there? The compartment on the opposite side has a jack and tools.
