Hello everyone,
I look forward to being a member in this forum, On my next days off I will be purchasing a 93 deli exceed. It has under 100k and the guy is asking 8000. This seems to be a good deal, however he said that there is a VERY minor oil leak coming from the turbo (which I assume is oil cooled) Does anyone think this could be serious? also, is parts and service that much more than a LHD import?
I have done much research on the delicas, and I have not found one complaint! are there any known problems with these units?

Cooling system (radiator / waterpump / thermostat / hoses) is an absolute must to have replaced (unless you are 100% certain it has been done).
Timing system (belts / pulley / tensioner) is an absolute must to have replaced every 90,000km (unless you are 100% certain it has been done).
If either one of these systems are not up to normal standards, then it is likely it can cause severe damage to your engine. This has happened many times over the last few years, most recently I counted seven in the past few month (cracked heads) due to lack of proper maintenance (cooling/timing).
With that said, once your cooling/timing is done properly, this engine will last a long time and these are amazing vehicles
Do not drive it hard (uphill). This will cause it to overheat. A pyrometer (EGT - exhaust gas temperature) gauge is very useful. This will provide a good indication of when to back off the throttle when pushing up a long hill.
A turbo rebuild is usually between $6-800 and if yours is leaking, it will just get worse and will need to be done.
Cooling system replace is usually around $900-1,200
Timing system replace is usually around $700-900
These are necessary maintenance things.
Parts are not difficult to find. There are well established importers / parts dealers in the lower mainland and vancouver island.
