please help!!! sucked air filter

hi,
new to this site, fitted a snorkel to my l300 unfortunately while revving and checking for leaks it sucked a rag into it and blocked the air intake any suggestions as to get it out, will i need to remove drivers seat and center cover to get access as have been grazing my knuckles trying to get at all pipes, can i try and suck it out with a hoover? or is this a bad idea,

You might be able to run down to Home Depot and get a plumbing snake. The snake has a spiral end that may wrap around the rag and allow you to fish it out without tearing anything apart.

I don't see why you are trying to come up with some elaborate scheme. Remove the seat, open the hatch (grand total effort 90 seconds) and get access to the system from the far side.

Disconnect the intake hose on the far side of your snorkel from the engine and remove it manually, or push it out with air pressure. Don't try to suck it out. All you will do is create a vacuum and move nothing.

Not sure if I completely understand your situation but underneath the van, behind the front right wheel is access to the air filter (two clasps) perhaps if you remove the air filter you can get to it from there. As far as getting to it from the top ~ you don't need to remove the driver's seat ~ just pull the seat forward; pull the carpet out of the way; undo the wing nut and remove the hatch, et voila... smiles. As far as tools are concerned: I would go into your closet and find a wire coat hanger, undo it and shape it to the desired need. I hope this helps you predicament.

was the airfilter in at the time? If so the filter should be in the airbox.

If not good chance it will be in the turbo! If it made it to the turbo check for damage.

no filter because top was not on snorkel, i know it pulls like hell could it have made it to the turbo???, some white smoke out the back and then cough cough no air like an asmatic ant !!!

Have you opened your air filter chamber yet (from underneath, behind the front right wheel)? By the way, you should never, ever, run the engine without an air filter.

Like others said.

Don't turn it back on.

Remove the seat, disconnect the pipes starting at the turbo and check the turbo for any loose play in the shaft.

Find the rag. Curious to where it got lodged.

With a snorkel you should still have the airfilter!! (The snorkel head at most is a pre-filter)

I put my money that it is in the turbo. Your motor is one big vacuum it will suck a rag into the cylinder. Being a turbo it most likely stopped in the turbo. hopefully no damage.

taking it all to bits tomorrow starting with turbo hopefully no damage, mate comin over for a hand will take some piccys so you can see where i find it then reconstruct with filter box before i test snorkel again!!!! live and learn

hi all,

rag found at turbo started there 20 minute job as screws for fuel filler were very tight!!!, no damage to turbo. snorkel now connected through the air box properly engine gives a lovely growl now pulling of truck feels quicker not gone far enough to see how fuel economy does, next job extender pipes on all the breather holes and pipes on diffs, axles, auto box etc, any advise ???

As far as I know there are only two breather pipes you need to extend. On the diffs. If you are planing some deeper water stuff you also should seal off your belt cover.

I would be surprised if there are not breathers on both diffs, trans, and transfer.

whole story is took out air box from under seat cut hole in side of car fitted snorkel with extentender pipe, had taken filter out of air box taken foam cover off left on side started car without snorkel or air box to check for any leaks in further system unforntunately it then sucked the foam cover and cleaning rag up the system, new filter and air box fitted when i get my camera working will take some piccies, 1992 l300 p35 2.5 inch lift by bruce, metal monkeys rear ladder, stainless steel exhaust, jaos sump guard big wheels and now a snorkel,

however love the extended delica it looks awesome dudes
