"..although in hindsight, maybe it would have made more sense to mount a swingout fuel tank and leave the tire in its place..."
Actually, I've never thought having the extra fuel tank - swing out. Mmm ... I'm going to give this idea serious consideration. There's a delica.ca member called "vimpli" - he's got pics of his yellow delica (LHD & 2 cargo drs + no quarter rear glass) on this site .... he has mounted a swing tire at the rear. In looks very much like he's prep it for overland exped - something that I want to do with mine. I'm actually in the process of sourcing out a rear tire swing mech. + other parts.

Re: 91 l300 tank capacity
It is on my to do list a bumper with tire swing (lots of build sites)
Lots of people use trailer spindles and bearings for the pivot.

"....a bumper with tire swing (lots of build sites).."
I don't have much in terms of metal working tools/equip. so I am more interested in buying the tire swing setup from a shop/store. A few years ago for the new Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler had as an option a tire swing (rear bumper mounted) as an option. I am trying to find something like that.
Delica.ca member Vimpli has a Yellow Euro Delica with a rear swing tire setup. I like what he has done.

75L x 11.4 kilometres per litre* = 855 kilometres divided by 1.6 = 534.375 miles (per 75L tankful). Then there is the 20L jerry can reserve.ABdelica wrote:Thanks for the suggestions. By longer range, I am thinking for in the lines of an expedition vehicle's type of range say for trips to Dempster highway, Canol Road, Spatziz, etc.
i.e. 500+ miles range (more the better). ........

Re: 91 l300 tank capacity
To be more realistic you can not get more than max 650km out of Delica tank (loaded on mixed roads). Also you don't want to use it down to the last liter in remote areas.FalcoColumbarius wrote:75L x 11.4 kilometres per litre* = 855 kilometres divided by 1.6 = 534.375 miles (per 75L tankful). Overland type vehicles should be able to make at least close to 1000km without worrying about fuel. Depending on the area you want to travel of course.

Re: 91 l300 tank capacity
You really drove straight 855km without any stops at the gas station?FalcoColumbarius wrote:I am only talking from personal experience, I have no idea how realistic that is... smiles.
Or do you just calculate it from your average mileage?
I drove (never fast than 100km/h nor 4x4ing) a couple times with our auto l300 till we literately run out of fuel and I never made it over 650km. You would be the first man on this planet who made it easy over 800km

Re: 91 l300 tank capacity
You talkin' to me?
Yes, that is based on a straight highway average, which is why I take the jerry can.
The person to talk to about the L300's capacity and the Dempster Highway would be Erebus: Inuvik or bust by expedition Delica

Re: 91 l300 tank capacity
No worries, did the Dempster last year too (as well as parts of the Canol Road). It's not a problem. The stretch without fuel is way to short to worry if you carry some cans. Unless you can proof the 855km with real life experience, it's just a calculation on paper.FalcoColumbarius wrote:The person to talk to about the L300's capacity and the Dempster Highway would be Erebus: Inuvik or bust by expedition Delica

Re: 91 l300 tank capacity
Right. Fuelled up in North Van. Drove to Boston Bar via the Number One. Refuelled and calculated the amount of litres going into the tank against the amount of kilometres on the odometer, which was set in North Van. 11.4 Kilometres to the litre. Bada-bing, bada-boom. The most litres I have ever put into the fuel tanks in one fuelling is 73 litres (I drove to the fuel station).

Re: 91 l300 tank capacity
Again making calculations and assumptions how long you still can go doesn't count. I only buy you are beer and shut up if you go with one fill-up straight 855km. Also log it on your GPS and not the odometer. Let's test it on one of our next camping trips.FalcoColumbarius wrote:Right. Fuelled up in North Van. Drove to Boston Bar via the Number One. Re: 91 l300 tank capacity
I'd be up for that, but remember that winding highways are not straight highways and use more fuel. There is a guy in Australia that gets 12 kliks to the litre (8L/100K) driving across Australia. And realistically: I wouldn't drive past a fuelling station with a sign outside it reading "NEXT SERVICES 370 KILOMETRES" ~ the sign might be old and the next services may have been closed down for all I know.

Re: 91 l300 tank capacity
Well its definitely been confirmed, the 91 l30 has a 75 litre tank with the fuel light coming on at the 60 litre mark.
My gauge was/is finicky and appears empty at the 330 km mark, but since reading this thread i pushed beyond what the gauge was telling me and easily achieve 450 km per tank and have been over 500 km on approx 70 litres of fuel, mix of highway and city lots of hills and essentially letting her run all day.
I could probably get closer to to 550 or 600k per tank but i drive fairly aggressively and often have the rpms up in the 2500-3000 range.
Cheers
David

Re: 91 l300 tank capacity
Have you checked your air filter? We had some pretty big forest fires this Summer and I noticed there was a lot of soot in the air, not to mention having landed on the roads that were a little more dustier than usual. I also noticed that my fuel economy was not up to par. Eventually I put two and three together and pulled out my air filter, examined it and turned round, holding the filter up and exclaimed: "Edwin, I present to you the forests of British Columbia".
Check your air filter, hold a light up to it and see how much light you can see inside the filter.
