We just returned home after driving our loyal L300 to the west coast from central Saskatchewan. Happy to report we had no problems and our van powered on like a trooper.
Before I go any further I have to tell you all how awesome Mardy was to us. He and his staff are legendary. Being from out of province I didn't expect to get any service work done on short notice but Mardy made time for us and went the extra mile. I can honestly say I've never had better customer service from any business. Thanks Mardy!!
We drove out through Jasper and the Fraser Canyon and returned through Kelowna (via the Coq.) and Banff. On the way west I didn't run with high enough revs when climbing hills and my engine temperature was like a yoyo. Coming back east I was not looking forward to the coquihalla but I tackled it anyway. As soon as my temperature started to climb I geared down until my rpm stayed at 3000 and the temperature dropped noticeably and held steady were it normally runs. After the first big hill I started breathing again and the rest was smooth sailing. : )
As a bit of trivia...I had my AC thermometer installed in the center dash vent for the trip. While hill climbing on the way west I was dumping engine heat via the duct work to prevent overheating and the highest temperature I recorded was 160 F. Needless to say even with the windows down I was riding in the hot seat.
