How Many People Would Want An EGR Blanking Plate For L300?

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

You and me both. I decided to start a new thread for L300/L400/Pajero EGR blanking plates as Falco suggested.

Falco, feel free to remove my posts from here if it helps clear up confusion. Sorry mate I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Just trying to help out.

Hi guys,

Well, in this case (i.e. Falco not going ahead with the blanking plate) I will order a kit from either RichD, Jensen or EnviroImports (it is my understanding that either all of these 3 or some of them will be manufacturing some kits).

Could you (RichD, Jensen, EnviroImports) let me know what you would need from my end (i.e. somebody who would like to order a blanking plate-kit) in order to make it worth your while and if you are going ahead and would be willing to consider "my order" for a kit, let me know what your estimated cost would be and what timeframe you are looking at for getting the plates done?

I hope I got this straight - in any case, thanks very much upfront - I am really looking forward to blocking off or removing the EGR altogether.

Cheers,
Chris

Sorry about any confusion,

I have just recently purchased an L300, I am in the process of designing several parts for the L300 that are not so easy to find (mainly interior components) but I'm also set up to do all sorts of machining. I was originally going to just buy a blanking plate for my own ride as I did not have any dimensions to make my own. After I got a plate I would start making them. HOWEVER, a couple of post's ago someone put up the dimensions so I'm now making my own. A member PM'd me and said he was taking off soon and he needed one asap so I made a thin version friday which I gave to him for free (as it was a bit rough by my standards and not an optimal thickness, although the thickness is up for debate, but in the future for my own piece of mind I'm just going to make them thicker anyway). Since then I've been included on the list of shops bidding for the group buy. I'm working on the price right now as I'm choosing to jet (preferably) or laser cut the plates which I need an outside shop to do. (as I only have conventional cnc and manual machines, no water or laser) The difference between me getting a quote from a shop and most of the board members asking a shop is I put several hundred thousand dollars worth of work through my guy and he's usually more than generous with pricing when it comes to my pet projects. I'm pretty sure my price will come in very reasonable, and even after the group buy I plan on keeping stock on these plates as I'm sure people will need them in the future. I'm not sure how serious this little parts enterprise of mine will get, I'm not sure whether it's worth the effort to set up a website or anything at this time. I'll probably just start with deli meets and word of mouth.

Its funny how these threads, and all the back and forth, and mis-posts, lead to what sounds like a perfect match of need and man for the job.

Very cool Jensen.

I just can't believe how quickly people have jumped on this (PM's and the board?) How hard are these plates to get and am I the only person on here who works at a machine shop??? The one I made for the other guy took about 20min and it was actually harder to make because it was thin (hard to hold in a vice and not have bend). If you've got a shear or an iron worker and a small mill you could probably turn out about 10 an hour. I don't have a shear or an iron worker at my current shop so I have to mill everything which slows things down a bit.

^^^ actually, I see you're in Kelowna. The price of shipping these things would be darn near as much as they cost to make. You should start making them for people in Kelowna/Penticton/the interior. I can take care of anybody in the lower mainland and somebody else can help out folks on the island. (I think enviro imports is on the island?)

I'm going to post this on the 2 threads so nobody misses out. I have the prices as follows (you've got options here).

1/8" thick blanking plate (only the one for the standard blank job NOT the elimination) $4
1/4" thick elimination plates (2 plates) $10

These prices are a group buy price only, after this purchase I will be still selling these (incase you missed out and you're reading this 3 months from now) for a still competitive $13.

I have no idea what dia and length the fasteners are, so if someone could supply me with that info I will include nut's/bolts/lockwashers. Also, the hose I can also include (even the plug) but again, I need to know what dia hose I'm purchasing.

As a side note, I'm having to cover the cost of programming which is the same program for both the 1/8" plate and the 1/4" kit. If everybody decides to buy the $4 1/8" plate my costs will not be covered and I'm now operating a charity. (in which case I most likely the group buy or I'll have to raise the price for this group buy) I encourage you guys to buy the 1/4" or I'll have to have firm orders ahead of time before I can set a price. Besides, you most likely want to free up some room in that engine bay anyways. Get rid of that EGR!!!

Also, for a couple of extra bucks I can drill and tap NPT holes in either of the 1/4" plates. This will also depend on how many people want this done (more=cheaper) although even if it's only a couple of you it'll still only be a few dollars each.
