Re: What shall we do about green1?
Stay and keep doing what you're doing.
This vehicle probably has the most broad range of driver personalities compared to any other vehicle.
Forum is good for a lot of things. Sharing info, debating, arguing till you turn blue, lurking, etc... But more so, it's fun.
If you're not having fun doing the above things, then this forum may not be for you.
However, I believe you are enjoying it, thus stay !

Hey Green1,
Tough love isn't it! Honestly, at times I shake my head at how you must always have the last word but I've still learned a lot from you and appreciate your commitment. And when you do insist on having the last word and beat that dead horse it's still very entertaining!
But as I said, you have contributed most than anyone on this forum and Delica.ca wouldn't be the same without you... So of course you gotta stay, maybe just give that poor horse a rest!
Cheers,
David

Stay.
I enjoy reading what you post, and you contribute a lot, it just seems recently I've been doing too many face-palms when I read them.

Unfortunately, life is not only about being right. It is also a popularity contest. I speak from bitter experience, as Green1 well knows.Green1 wrote:now "I've been working on diesel engines for __ years" carries more weight on engine operations than mountains of printed material, tons of anecdotal evidence, common sense, and the laws of physics.
Can my vote be, "kick him but let him stay"? I volunteer to do the kicking. Maybe I'll have a poll to choose between down booties and steel-toed boots. Like any good politician, I promise to follow "the will of the people", then do as I damn well please.
Damn, picket fences are uncomfortable to sit on

Re: What shall we do about green1?
Maybe my relative newness makes me more objective, but this thread seems as self-serving as the flamefests I've been reading by this user for days. How is it reasonable to crap on every thread for a week then start a new thread soliciting affirmations?

Make up your own mind to stay or go. Making your own poll as a veiled threat to garner sympathy to massage your bruised ego as if you were the victim is pathetic.

Re: What shall we do about green1?
I am not going to take sides here because I am just as guilty of starting flamewars on other forums, and getting into some pretty outrageous debates. So, I am just as guilty - if not more so - on other forums of having been the cause of similar threads.psilosin wrote:Make up your own mind to stay or go. Having said that, I think all parties involved need to calm down and recognize that this is a forum for Delica lovers, and that everyone should be welcome. All opinions should be welcome - even if we disagree with them.
It is fine to disagree with someone's opinon as long as no one crosses the line into "ad hominem" or personal attacks.
Again, I am just as guilty of this in other places, but I think *EVERYONE* involved in flamewars needs to chill out a bit.
Just remember, different opinions are ok, attacking the individual and not the argument is not ok.
The internet holds on to flames, just like old placards:

I slept on it before I voted.
I think that a more effective way to deal with a user with a 50/50 split on their banning is probation. Subject all of the user's posts to moderator approval. I mean, the point is he can't self-moderate so he needs help.
As for removing all of a user's content from the site, the content doesn't belong to the user it belongs to the site. Welcome to the internet.

Green1
3255 posts!!! Wow!!!
Just make your point once, and stop begging for criticism. That being said, you do the forum a lot of good. Good info is hard to come by.

Re: What shall we do about green1?
The votes are close to 50-50 as I write this. If it were me, and anywhere close to even 20% of the forum's population who cares enough to vote wanted me gonzo... Well, I'd probably do some reflecting on who I am and who I want to be.
One can always read a post, disagree with it, and choose to do absolutely nothing. No reply. No fretting. Nothing. I do it all the time, mostly because I don't feel that I know enough to comment, but also because I rarely find issues that I care strongly enough about to warrant a post, and also because I just don't have the time.
Which brings me to my last point. The only time I was able to post much on Internet forums was when I was in grad school (and had total control of my time) or was working a job that I hated (and spent a lot of time goofing off). I've since found an enjoyable job and pastimes that greatly reduce the amount of time I spend on forums. Generally, I'm only on a forum when I've got a problem to solve, but still get side-tracked from time to time (ie. this thread). This change has been a good move for me. Everybody is different, but maybe a similar change would be good for others.

Re: What shall we do about green1?
The difference in personalities is one positive thing about any forum, within reasonable social parameters. Those boundaries are changed by the medium we're communicating in.
We are different ie: I rarely confront or argue points ever in any situation as I could care less if someone agrees with me or anyone. However I appreciate the differences in personalities as well as your wealth of knowledge.
If you're experience here is valuable to you, then that's what counts. Be who you be brother.
Warmly,
Erik

Re: What shall we do about green1?
You know? Everyone has an opinion. I like a good argument, I really do. In the end we have to respect each other's opinions and agree to disagree. It's just that simple.
I have trade secrets. Certain recipes for paint finishes that I know and you don't. Are they illegal? Not. Are they wicked? I like to think so. Am I going to tell them to you? Not likely. If someone has a way of doing something that keeps them in business because no one else knows how he does it the more power to him, he doesn't have to tell you his trade secret. If it is illegal then the authorities will know soon enough. Slander because he won't share his secret with you is not very becoming. I loath "political correctness" ~ I respect courtesy, it is a virtue.
We have an ongoing thread in General Discussion called the "Last Word Café". If you have a bone to pick, invite the bone pickee to the Last Word Café and carry it on amicably in there so we don't lose the original tenor of the thread in which the argument started in. Just remember Site Rule 1.1.1. and everything is cool... smiles.
