Bad Acceleration Whistle & Engine Ping...ouch!!

Hoping someone here can pass on some info here regarding two seperate problems that have happened within the last week or two.

First, about 10 days ago I started hearing a ping that happens when I accelerate. Black smoke, lag when accelerating from start etc. Have seen some links here that indicated that it could be EGR valve problems but it doesnt seem to be (had it checked).

Then Yesterday things went from bad to worse. I now have a bad whistling sound when accelerating as well. Starts at low rpms and gets louder as I accelerate. Thinking a hose leak or turbo problems by reading other posts.

So.....

Any thoughts out there as to whether or not these are dirtectly linked? I havent seen any posts linking the two items together but thought that I would throw it out out there and see if anyone has any information that may help me out.

The egr valve could be jammed open, is it hard to start as well?
If not I would suspect that the problem is the turbo itself or downstream of the turbo on the intake manifold.
The black smoke is fuel and not enough air. The whistle may be turbo boosted air escaping from the manifold and not getting into the engine causing that condition.

sounds like turbo issues......check for major air/ exhaust leaks at or near the turbo.

I am going to limp into Coombs today and get it looked at. Will let you know if it is turbo relatedam
